So I was on the phone with my mum when this 01618 437442 popped up on hold in the background. I quickly ended my chat with her and switched over to the held call, but it just dropped straight away. This happened on my home phone, not my mobile. After I checked the number online, it’s obvious it’s some dodgy scam. It’s not the first time this number has bothered me on my landline either. This morning I got a ring from 0161 818 8245. The person on the other end claimed to be from BT's Tech Department, saying there were some scam calls coming from our broadband line. I wasn’t having any of it and cut the call short.

My 91 year old mum, who’s disabled, got a call from this number. She was trying to reach the phone with her walking frame, thinking it was a mate ringing, but she couldn’t manage to get there quick enough. Luckily I was nearby and managed to check the number on Google. It’s really worrying how these scam calls can bother older people, especially those who have trouble moving about.

Got a call from 01618188245, some Indian lady saying she was from BT. I told her straight away it sounded dodgy and ended the call. Before I had a chance to block it, she rang back but this time from 07744436593. Again, she insisted she was from BT and mentioned an email I’d supposedly received. The first time it was a man with a Hispanic accent who sounded really worried, then just cut me off.
