This number has phoned me a few times with just silence, then hangs up. Today I ended up speaking to two different reps from what they said was Consumer Care Direct, a firm in Manchester. They say they can help you save cash, but only if you hand over some money first. After telling the first caller I’d be reporting them to the TPS, I got a second call just a few minutes later from a guy who gave his name as Victor - but he either forgot or didn’t want to say his surname. When I told him I wasn’t interested, he actually asked if I was daft for not wanting to save money! I’ve reported the lot to the TPS, but honestly don’t hold out much hope that anything will come of it.

This number has called me quite a few times recently, but each time I answered there was no one there.

Just today, 22 March, I got another call. The bloke claimed he was from Consumer Direct and offered to help me save some money.

I told him straight away that I’m not interested in any sales calls. He sounded a bit annoyed, insisting he could save me cash. I explained I already have all my insurance sorted - house, life, car - plus pensions, gas and electric bills, so I don’t need anything else.

He then got frustrated and said I wasn’t even listening, before abruptly hanging up.

Fingers crossed they’ll finally remove me from their call list now.

I got a call like that just now. Thought it might be from Manchester so almost called back, but decided to check the site first. When I picked up, the line was silent at first, then suddenly I heard what sounded like a busy office and someone shouting about being “evicted from this conference”. Right after that, an automated voice said “goodbye” and cut off. Proper strange. Do you reckon it’s some kind of premium rate callback even though it shows a Manchester number? Mel, Liverpool.
