Sounds like this number belongs to some place that just rings random phones trying to catch someone answering. Once you pick up, they probably sell your info which is why people get loads of spam texts with adverts afterwards. I’ve found that if you answer once, don’t bother picking up if they ring again, or else your number gets flagged as active and gets passed around.

Got a call from someone claiming to be O2, saying they had a deal for me. The bloke had a heavy accent and was really curt, and there was loads of noise in the background. I get calls from this number almost every other day. I picked up once and could just hear some rustling noises, but no one said a word, so I ended the call. I never picked up again since then. I haven’t blocked the number though, so the calls go through to voicemail - except they never leave a message. If it was something urgent, wouldn’t they at least leave a voicemail? Got a ring from this number yesterday, claiming to be from 02. When they asked for my bank info, I told them I’d lost my card and didn’t give anything. They said they’d call again later. Today I got a ring from that number and they asked for me by name, which made me think it was legit at first. The guy claimed I’d contributed to some kind of SERPS pension a while back. I wasn’t sure if that was true, so I just told him no. He didn’t argue, just went “oh, alright then” and that was that. I ended the call. :)
