Got a rather pushy guy on the phone once, sounded like he was from South Africa. I find these calls a bit amusing, especially when I get to highlight how clueless they are (been in the finance world myself for 25 years, the decent side of it anyway). Sometimes I tell them I’m interested but ask them to wait while I “pass them on” to the right person. Then I just leave the phone near the radio for a good quarter of an hour. Bit childish, yeah, but it’s so satisfying when they’re still hanging on, and then you come back to tell them you’d rather shove hot needles in your eyes than get involved with their dodgy schemes...

Avoid picking up this number!! They’re total scammers. They tried to get my bank info after claiming to offer services like home and car insurance through my bank. I made it clear I wasn’t interested and don’t have those things. Then the guy said he’s going to file a complaint since my bank supposedly charged me for stuff I never signed up for! Got a bloke called Johnny going on about the typical PPI stuff. I said it’s all been dealt with. Then he switched to talking about bank accounts with monthly charges. Told him I don’t have those issues and gave him a polite ‘thanks’ for ringing.

Over the course of three days, got a few calls from the same number asking about bank fees. I kept explaining I’d already made a claim for those charges but they didn’t seem to listen and kept pressing me. In the end, I blocked the number and marked it as spam.

This number has rung me loads of times. Normally, I don’t pick up unknown calls and they never leave a voicemail anyway. But today, I picked up just to see who it was. The noise in the background was really loud, sounded just like a call centre. A bloke called ‘Michael’ with an Indian accent tried saying he knew my name and asked if I wanted to make some sort of financial claim. I told him I wasn’t interested pretty quickly and hung up while he was still talking. Definitely won’t be picking up next time!

I wouldn’t share any info with calls from 0161 Manchester numbers either. To me, all those 0161 numbers feel like a pain and possibly risky. Best advice? Consider changing your phone number.
