I keep getting calls from someone who knows my name, asking if it’s me about some insurance renewal. I told them my insurance is for a leasehold car, so it’s not relevant. When I said I’d block the number, the person said I don’t know why they’re calling me - but that’s the first thing they said when I picked up! Proper confusing.

I received a rather peculiar phone call informing me that I had been involved in a car crash. Quite amusing, really, as I haven't so much as touched a steering wheel in over two decades! The caller then claimed I was merely a passenger in some accident - an absolute fabrication. It was crystal clear they were operating from a call centre, what with the background noise resembling a bustling market. The number flashed up as being from Manchester, yet the accent was distinctly South African, and I could easily make out similar accents amidst the din. It's all a bit daft! Surely we ought to have measures in place to put an end to such nonsense and make these dubious practices illegal?
