I just got a phone call claiming I’m entitled to an additional 8% tax refund, suggesting I could pocket at least £1380. Then, I stumbled upon a dodgy email asking me to "verify my information" to receive the supposed funds via a cheque. I'd strongly advise steering clear of this nonsense and certainly don’t engage with any links in that email. It’s from [email protected] - definitely not a message from HMRC!

This number rang me earlier today. A lady with a nice tone answered and started talking about some sort of PPE, maybe protective gear or something, from "us" or so she said. She also threw in the name of a company, though I didn’t catch it properly. It sounded like she was referring to a chat we had before, but I wasn’t sure. I quickly chose not to engage much and ended the call myself.

What a dodgy con! They rang up claiming to assist me with my PPI claim. The moment I inquired about how they obtained my information, the chap seemed to lose his cool. I pointed out his rather irritable tone, and he had the audacity to twist it back on me, saying I was the one who was flustered! I just saw a missed call from this number. They left a voicemail, using my first name and sounding really rude, saying they could hear me breathing and asking why I wasn’t answering. That’s weird because I never picked up, so how on earth could they hear me?! No idea who this person is or where they’re calling from, because they didn’t say. When I tried to call back, it just said the call couldn’t go through. Feels like some kind of scam to me.

I received a phone call regarding a so-called “PPI tax refund.” As a chartered accountant with considerable experience in sorting out the aftermath of PPI for various firms, I can confidently say there’s no legitimacy to this claim-it's not how HMRC operates. I explained this to the caller and requested to be removed from his list, to which he rudely labelled me as aggressive before abruptly ending the call. Definitely a scam!
