However, when I contacted BT, I was met with the rather unhelpful response of "number not recognised". Intrigued, I decided to check my voicemail and discovered a message waiting for me. It had been left just moments earlier and had all the hallmarks of a scam. The recorded voice claimed that there was a "first charge of £700 from Amazon" followed by a "second charge of £2000 via an international money transfer website." They mentioned that these transactions appeared to be suspicious and unauthorised, which is rather perplexing considering I'd never engaged in such dealings before.
