I've had calls two days in a row from this number and also from 01716114885. One was a man, the other a woman, both with really strong Indian accents, clearly from some call centre. They both claimed to be from BT, saying something about my wi-fi. I cut off the man’s call because I could hardly understand him, but when the woman said she was from BT about my wi-fi, I asked, “Why do you think I have BT wi-fi?” She didn’t hang up but said nothing after that, so I just ended the call. I've blocked both numbers now.

I received a rather troubling call concerning some supposed verification regarding a recent car crash. The individual on the other end had a discernible foreign accent and was quite impolite. They abruptly terminated the call when I mentioned that there had been no accident at all. Quite baffling, really!

I received a call today that had a heavy Indian subcontinent accent, claiming that I was involved in an accident - which I certainly wasn't! Got a robotic voice on the line saying she was calling about my accident. Told her I keep getting these calls but I haven't had any accident, then she just hung up. What a pain.

I've managed to track down the source of these nuisance calls, and it seems to be linked to Home Retail Group, specifically Littlewoods and others. They keep pestering individuals regarding alleged debts, often to the wrong people altogether. They have the audacity to claim you owe them money and threaten charges of £15 just for the privilege of the call. If you receive such a call and don't have any dealings with them, simply let them know they can attempt to charge your non-existent account, but it's best if they remove your number from their records. You might also want to remind them of Ofcom’s role in dealing with such matters. It could also be wise to note down all the times they reach out to you and assert that for each call you receive, you’ll demand £25 as compensation via small claims. Best to keep on top of it!

Just to chime in, if your phone can block calls, it won't even ring when you get one from those annoying numbers. So, you only find out you got a call when you actually look at your phone, and that’s when you can block them properly. If you’re fed up with random cold calls, maybe invest in a phone that lets you block numbers easily.
