Tried ringing this number back and got a voicemail from Simwood, some UK telecom firm, saying the line’s been blocked because of dodgy activity. They even have a bit on their site that explains the whole thing. Turns out the number’s fake, not linked to any real person, which is what they call “spoofing”.

A few days ago I got a call from a woman who seemed quite pleasant at first, asking about an accident I'd supposedly been involved in. I said I hadn't had any accidents and thought she'd dialled the wrong number, but she kept pushing that I was entitled to some insurance payout and said it wouldn’t take much time to claim it. When I started to get doubtful, she turned quite forceful and didn’t let me explain, so I ended up ending the call. Afterwards, my mates told me it sounded like a scam, so I thought I’d share my experience here.

I told him this number is marked as a scam, then asked if he knew my name. He just told me to "shut up" and hung up! Honestly, that was so rude - I was actually having a bit of a laugh!

Sounds like they were trying to fish for my personal info.
