I decided to ring them back, and to my astonishment, they took remote control of my device! They started pushing me to buy a network firewall. It began to linger on my screen, and I noticed my computer was starting to freeze up. I gave them a bell and now my screen is inundated with adult content. I ended up stuck on their line for 39 minutes, but thankfully I didn't fork out any cash. They somehow took over my screen. It urged me to call the number provided without delay, warning that closing the page would result in my computer being disabled. They threatened that if I didn’t get in touch within five minutes, I'd lose access entirely. To make matters worse, another pop-up came from Microsoft Edge, claiming a server error with the same code, suggesting that a dodgy connection was attempting to gain entry to my banking and login details. It was even prompting me for my username and password! There was a cheeky tick box at the bottom asking if I’d like to prevent further messages from appearing, as if I would trust that! Thankfully, I’ve got BullGuard Antivirus, Malwarebytes, and CCleaner all up to date, and I ran a full scan.
