My elderly mother received a phone call from someone claiming they could help her save £40 on her energy bill. They then started inquiring about where she does her shopping, which made her rather anxious, and she ended the call. The very next day, I was there when they called again. I picked up and they addressed me using my mother’s first name, stating that they intended to come around for a visit. I firmly told them to get lost and have since blocked their number! Utterly despicable scammers, no doubt about it!

Been getting loads of calls like this recently, proper annoying having to stop what I’m doing every time. Now I just let them ring into voicemail and then I look through the missed calls at the end of the day. I check the numbers on here and block any that seem dodgy or unknown.

When someone rings me and doesn’t say where they got my number or why they’re calling, but just starts with “How are you?” without making it clear who they are, I usually tell them I’m busy and if it’s important they can send me a text. Then I say goodbye. This guy kept asking dumb questions and kept calling, so I ended up blocking him. Proper annoying and definitely not honest.

Got a call saying I’d been picked as a clever shopper and got a £40 saving on some kind of super card. Asked if there was a catch and they said nope, none at all. This number rang me earlier. The bloke said he was from some "Debt Help Service" and had my name. He claimed his manager looked at my details and said I have unsecured debts he could sort out. I told him to take me off their list or I'd report him to the ombudsman. Then he repeated the same line about my manager checking my profile and the debts again. I told him I don’t owe anything and suggested he find a real job instead. Then he just hung up.

I got a call from a polite bloke who chatted about the perks of putting money into wine. They didn't try to force a sale or anything, just wanted to send some info either by email or post about how well the fine wine investment market’s doing. I did a bit of research on the firm afterwards.
