I got a call from this number supposedly from the Inland Revenue, but it was a recorded message warning me about legal trouble if I didn't wait to speak to an operator. When I asked some questions, the person just ended the call. Both the automated message and the person sounded American, which seemed odd. I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number now.

Got a rather pushy woman on the phone who said she was from ACCS, going on about failed PPI claims. Told her I never had any, so it wasn’t relevant. Then she switched to talking about tax refunds and how much I might get back. That’s when I cut her off, saying “This sounds like a scam call, sorry if it’s not, but I’m ending this now.” After that, she actually got quite polite and said, “I understand ma’am, thank you!” I’ve since blocked the number.

Got a call from someone called John who had my name, email and date of birth and wanted my home address. He said he was from HMRC and that I was owed a PPI refund. He then asked which banks I’d used before. He told me the refund would come through the post as a cheque. I know it’s a scam because I just got a tax refund straight into my bank from HMRC, plus I never had a loan or PPI claim. How are these scammers getting hold of my info?

Someone was saying they were from First Target Recovery or something and wanted me to confirm my name, birthday and old address before giving them my current info. Then they asked me to click a link to approve my signature. Luckily my missus walked in and I just hung up. They didnt try calling me again after that.

Like the first reply here, they keep ringing claiming it’s about a tax refund from HMRC. They’ve called me a few times now and honestly, it’s really getting on my nerves. I told them straight up that it’s never going to happen and this afternoon about 1pm, I firmly asked them to stop calling. If they bother me again, I’m going to report them to the ombudsman. I've received two calls over the past couple of days from this same number, each time with a different name claiming they were assisting me in recovering tax on an old PPI claim from eight years ago. They were quite eager for my banking information. Naturally, I was sceptical and told them I wasn’t convinced; they insisted they had authorization from HMRC to speak directly with me and even asked for my mobile number. In hindsight, I really should have recorded our conversation. I wouldn't recommend engaging with them if I were you. They identified themselves as ACS Accounts and Tax.

Henry Goldstein is someone to watch out for, along with Mr Ataiq Chaundry. Their company’s going under, no directors left, and they haven’t submitted anything to Companies House since 2021. Tried to be civil but that didn’t fly, so I saved the number and blocked it. Reported them to the telecoms ombudsman for scam calls! Honestly, these lot won’t get anywhere, and be glad you’re not stuck doing the lowest job out there, scamming folks from the slums they’re living in.

This is definitely a scam. Make sure to report any suspicious calls straight to the police so they can handle it. There’s a dedicated system to make reporting simple. Just search for ‘action fraud’ and visit the UK police website. Head to the phishing report section and scroll down till you find the short form. You don’t have to sign up or anything. You can type out info about threats or rude language in the free text box near the end of the form, which mostly uses checkboxes. Reporting scam calls is the best way to help stop them!
