Posted a comment before but thought I’d update - I blocked the original number and today got the exact same call from a different Manchester line 0161 528 4141. Just to clear things up for everyone, I haven’t had any police show up or been arrested after those messages. If the cops ever do turn up, I’ll be asking them to sort out these idiots who keep ringing. Stay safe all!

Over the last day, I’ve gotten six calls altogether. Three were from this one number, but after I blocked it, I started getting another three calls early in the morning around 7.55am from a different 0161 number. I’ve now blocked both of them.

Really upsetting experience - got an automated phone call claiming to be from HMRC saying someone or their lawyer needed to ring back straight away 'cause it was a urgent issue. Got a call from this number where someone pretending to be from HMRC said I’d be taken to court in a couple of hours. They warned me that the police would have a warrant to come and arrest me, and then they asked for my lawyer's information. Felt really scary and suspicious to be honest.

Got a few calls from an unknown number on my private work mobile, no voicemail left. Decided to ring back from a blocked landline, and straight away it picked up after just one ring. A man with a strong foreign accent answered, saying, “HMRC, how can I help you?” Now, anyone who’s dealt with HMRC knows they never pick up that quickly - it's always a wait with those annoying robotic messages about your call being important. So that was the first red flag. Then, when I asked “Sorry, who did you say you are?” there was a split-second pause, then the call was disconnected. No legitimate HMRC agent would hang up that fast, that’s for sure. Clearly a scam. The frustrating bit is, how do you get the police involved? Seems like they’re too tied up with other stuff to bother chasing these scammers. So best bet, block the number and ignore any calls from it. Still, I’d like to see these scammers called out properly, maybe even locked up. Let’s try to report this one so at least we can get rid of one of these pests before they trick someone else.
