Got a robo call saying I've charged like £300 and £1000 on Amazon and some other place. They said it was my bank ringing. Wish I had that kinda cash hanging about! Definitely a scam. They try to get you to press 1 to confirm the charges, but if you just don’t do anything, the call just drops.

I had a similar experience where I got a call demanding the exact sum of £119. I truly appreciate all the heads up from everyone; I've decided to block that number now. Initially, they had me second-guessing, thinking perhaps we genuinely owed that amount. However, when they requested my card details to complete the transaction, alarms started ringing in my head, and I realised it was likely a con.

I got a call from some place about insuring my washing machine. They said I could renew my warranty for £100. Then they asked to speak to my son, but he doesn’t even live with me anymore. The call centre was really loud and chaotic. Pretty obvious it was a scam, so I just hung up.

So, I just got a call from this number as well. They claimed I was due a refund of £119, or something like that. I told them to post a cheque because there was no way I was handing over my bank info on a call. The woman muttered something quietly and then just hung up on me.

Got a missed call from 01615202117 and wasn’t sure who it was, so I left it. Looked it up here afterwards and seems like it’s one of those scam calls aiming to grab your bank info. I’m definitely flagging it as risky.

A young woman with a thick Asian accent rang me claiming to be calling from 'Homecare' about my washing machine insurance. She told me I’d apparently paid £119 too much. Since my insurance is actually through Domestic & General, I cut the call pretty quickly. I’m pretty sure she was fishing for my bank info, but I didn’t hang around to find out! - Ruth Taylor

I’ve had calls both today and yesterday regarding a supposed refund of £119 for my washing machine’s warranty. When I mentioned that I’d prefer a cheque for the refund, the caller abruptly said that wasn’t an option and just hung up on me! It’s quite clear that it's a scam.

I just received an unexpected phone call claiming I was due a refund for overpaying on a washing machine warranty. The chap on the line didn’t seem to know the brand of the machine or the purchase date. He insisted that, because of Covid regulations, they couldn’t issue a cheque and became rather pushy and even a bit aggressive when I wouldn’t share my bank information. I ended up stringing him along for nearly ten minutes before losing interest and disconnecting. No doubt about it, it was a scam.

Got a call earlier from someone asking for my mum by her first name, but when I told them she wasn’t around and offered to pass on a message, they just said “no” and ended the call. Then, about five minutes ago, another automated number rang (01512818124), saying they were from a bank - seems fishy to me, maybe it’s connected and a scam attempt.

At around 7 o'clock this evening, I received a rather relentless call from this number. My husband instructed the caller to send a cheque for a refund, however, the individual on the other end conjured up all sorts of reasons as to why that wasn't possible. Yet, they continued to press for our bank details, insisting they were keen to process our refund right away. In the end, my husband decided enough was enough and hung up.

I had a call the other day, and the person on the other end seemed totally convinced they were ringing the police station. I've had a couple of encounters in the last week with the number 0161 520 2117. Each time, a foreign-speaking individual has been on the other end of the line-initially a chap, and today, a woman. It definitely raised my suspicions. I asked them, if they had such detailed information about me, why not just send a cheque? Unsurprisingly, they claimed that a cheque wasn't possible and insisted on a bank transfer instead, hence their need for my account info. It's reminiscent of what the Ukrainian home guard said to Russian sailors when asked to surrender: “You can take a hike!”

WARNING! Make sure you report every scam call or message to the police fraud system. Just search for ‘action fraud’ and head to the ‘police.uk’ website. Find the page about/reporting phishing, take your time to read all the info provided. After that, submit the details of the scam you encountered, including any web addresses or links. You don’t need to sign up or give personal info unless you’re reporting a scam where you actually lost cash. The police need these reports to track and stop these thieves, so it’s important to report every suspicious contact you get.

Just like others, I was expecting a refund for an overpayment on my care plan. They had my name and address, yet insisted they required my email to verify my details. I firmly stated that I would not provide any bank information. Then I was passed to another representative, who immediately began asking for my bank details. I shared my email, but nothing beyond that. I hung up. Normally, I steer clear of such conversations, as they're often just scams. However, with the pandemic and all, I've noticed that a lot of insurance companies have actually issued refunds, including Bupa, AXA, and my car insurer. Each time, they sent me a cheque. It's all too easy to get caught out. Just a reminder: if these individuals are genuine, they'll communicate with you through a letter.

I think it was a scammer, called and just said hello before hanging up. Maybe they noticed I wasn't an easy target. So annoying!
