I’m in the same boat! Just received a pre-recorded message mentioning HMRC, a fine, and solicitors. No chance I’m ringing them back! Does anyone have any idea on how to report this sort of thing?

Received a voicemail purporting to be from HMRC. The automated voice insisted it was crucial I get in touch, warning that failure to respond—whether personally or through a solicitor—could result in legal repercussions. Given that I’m employed in the tax sector, I chose not to return the call.

I’ve had to block this number as I’ve never encountered it before. A rather unclear woman left a rather alarming voicemail regarding some legal threats. I decided to return the call, but with my caller ID concealed, and I made it quite clear, "CEASE AND DESIST FROM SENDING THREATENING VOICEMAILS IMMEDIATELY!"

I have strong suspicions that I've been targeted by a dodgy phone call featuring a robotic voice purporting to be from HMRC. It made me chuckle when they introduced themselves as Officer Dennis or some such name, yet the voice was distinctly female! I didn't stick around to catch the entire message, hence my inability to elaborate further on what was said.

I’m in a similar boat. Gave the number a ring back and was met with an automated American voice – strange, as it referenced a completely different name from the one on the message. Genuine HMRC correspondence should always come through the post, in my opinion. Interestingly, I also received a text about an account being shut down, but it didn’t specify which one. Naturally, I was curious and clicked the link, only to find it led to a dodgy PayPal phishing site. It’s pretty evident that my number has been passed around somewhere.
