On the last page, there’s a message from 07/08 explaining exactly what steps to take when you receive these scam calls. I’m curious how many people actually took the time to report them though? One big reason these scam calls and texts keep coming through is because they’re effective to some extent and also because hardly anyone reports them.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with HMRC saying I owed them £4326. They went on with this big spiel about legal stuff I couldn’t fully catch, something about unpaid bills and fraud. Then they asked if I wanted to say anything, I just said no. Same when they asked if I had any questions. After that, they told me the matter would go to court and I’d end up paying fines and fees, making it something like £42,000! They ended the call with a cheery “good luck in court”! It felt like a proper scam to me.

Got a voicemail from this number but it sounded all automated. I tried calling back and there was no ring, then a bloke with an Indian accent picked up saying he was some Peter guy. He told me I was about to get arrested for unpaid taxes and wanted my address and other info. I told him I don’t give out personal stuff and that I’m up to date with my PAYE payments, even showed him I get tax statements. He got pretty rude when I kept asking questions and then just hung up. 😂 Reported it straight to HMRC. Looks like classic phishing scam. Watch out!

I called just for a laugh and when the guy realised I was messing about, he started threatening to call the cops on me for being disrespectful to officials and then abruptly ended the call. Got a recorded call from a woman saying Monica Chan from the Inland Revenue. It was one of those messages that tried to scare you about needing a lawyer or something.
