Got a bunch of texts earlier from someone saying they were from ‘Hanover’, but today was the first time they actually rang me. I didn’t pick up. Later on, they left a voicemail - some bloke named Mic with a strong Manchester accent asking for a ‘Kayleigh’ to call him back urgently. Totally not me, no idea where they got that name from! He sounded pretty off, maybe had a few drinks. Cheers to everyone who’s left comments before, I’m using a fresh work phone and a new SIM, yet somehow they still have my number! Best advice: don’t pick up or message back.

Got a call from someone saying they were from HMRC, telling me I’d be taken to court if I didn’t ring back straight away. Since I do have some unpaid tax, I got a bit worried. I phoned the number they left and a man with an Asian accent answered, but he used my old surname which made me suspicious. I ended the call and then contacted the real HMRC. They confirmed it was a scam. Just want to warn others to watch out for this.

The message said not to ignore it and to get in touch, warning that if neither I nor my lawyer replied, legal steps would follow. I couldn’t quite make out the name, but it came across as some kind of robotic message. I had to replay it a couple of times because I wasn’t sure I heard it right. Got a voicemail saying it was urgent from HMRC, sounded like a total robot and obviously a scam. I called back just for laughs and some blokes with Indian accents asked for my name. Two of them hung up on me quick, but one stuck around. I started asking him why HMRC is hiring Indians - turns out he’s never even been to India, born and bred in Manchester.
