How to deal with these calls: I just threw a couple of questions at them. Like, why on earth do I need your services when I get all my info directly from HMRC? If you can see my records, then how come you don’t know exactly why I’m owed some money? And why should I bother filling out a form when I sort everything through HMRC’s online system? Got a call from an Asian woman saying I was owed a Tax Refund and that she’d send me some paperwork to complete, already had my name, address and postcode. She didn’t ask for my bank info, which I thought was odd but expected. Seems like a clear scam to me, so I didn’t bother arguing. PART 3 All done. Lesson here: Folks pushing dodgy schemes should get as scared as possible. Don’t just let it slide...mess with them! Use fake names, load the address with too many digits, give bogus phone or account numbers, even throw in made-up characters like santa or the easter bunny. If you’re unsure, act like you’re from some official government dept. ;)
