Here we go with those dodgy appliance insurance calls yet again! Feels like there’s a new fake company ringing everyday with the same rubbish spiel. What a total waste of time these lot are!

On 9th Nov 23, I got a quiet call on my BT landline from 04401613941853. They just went silent and then hung up. I’ve reported it over at bt.com/scams.

I got a call from a utility company, a woman first spoke, then she passed the phone to a man who sounded Asian. He mentioned the sort code for our bank account, so I checked with the bank and everything seemed fine. About half an hour later, the same woman rang back asking for the same person again! I told them the call had now been sent straight to the police fraud team.

Got a call from a man with a strong Indian accent claiming I could cut costs on maintaining all my home appliances. I politely declined and ended the call quite quickly. Seriously, how come BT is okay with letting their UK landline numbers end up in the hands of these call centres overseas?

Some bloke with a weird accent called me up, said he needed to discuss maintenance fees on my gadgets. He tried to get my birth year but I didn’t give it. Somehow he already had my name and where I live. I told him I don’t pay any maintenance fees. Then he started accusing me of lying. I insisted I wasn’t. He kept on about it, saying something like, “You lot always lie.” Then he just hung up on me.

Got a call from a very polite bloke with an Asian accent saying my household items insurance was about to expire. He claimed since I’ve been a customer for ages, they’d knock some money off the price. I was suspicious straight away because insurance firms never just cut their fees like that. Plus, he never actually told me which company he was from, and to top it off, my policy was already renewed a couple of months ago! Felt like a bit of a sketchy call if you ask me.

This morning, I got a call from a woman who said her name was Hayley, sounded like she was from overseas or something. She said she worked for a company offering appliance insurance. Thing is, we’ve never bothered with appliance insurance as all our stuff, like the washing machine, was bought second hand, so it’s not something we need.

Got a call from some bloke abroad, and since the number started with Manchester code and I live in Cardiff, I just said hi without mentioning where I work. He wanted to talk to the boss, but I told him the contact list he had must be out of date cos I retired ages ago, like six years back. He apologised, sounded decent enough, and promised to take my number off his list.

Like the others said, I kept telling the guy I already sorted my own listing and wasn't interested, but he just ignored me. I kept him on the line a bit longer till he started losing his cool, then said I’d block him and slammed down. Had an Indian accent and the number showed up as Manchester, probably just faked anyway.
