The bloke had an Indian accent and kept calling me "sir" since they clearly didn’t have my name. Right away it felt like one of those dodgy calls. I received a rather dubious call from someone with an accent, claiming I was entitled to a payout of £2998 for a Mortgage Protection Policy I supposedly set up three decades back. The chap was probing for the name of the company involved and my date of birth. It quickly dawned on me that this was nothing more than a scam, so I cheekily suggested he send me a cheque. When he pressed for my birth date, I decided to feed him a fake one instead. It's clear he had my name and address, likely pilfered from the electoral register.

He asked me to mention the company involved, and I played along, explaining that I simply couldn’t remember since it was all in the distant past. When I tried to ring the number back, it was utterly unreachable, displaying a message that the service couldn’t be connected. Not long after, I received a call from 018654180005 about insurance for my household gadgets. I informed them that my daughter was handling that for me, so I had nothing under my name and promptly hung up. It’s clear this is just another round of scams doing the rounds!
