Got a call from a lady who said her name was Molly. She asked how I was doing and seemed to know my name was Janet. Then she started quizzing me about my life insurance. I asked where she was calling from and she suddenly got quite rude, even denying she’d said her name was Molly! I just ended the call after that. Not sure if it was some kind of scam, but I’ve blocked the number now and will definitely be more cautious about who I answer in future.

Today I got a call from 0161 513 7274 claiming to be from HMRC. The bloke asked me to spell out my name to verify it. I only spelled part of it and he didn’t seem to notice. He said something about a tax fraud issue and that HMRC had found I was involved. He then told me I’d have to hire a lawyer. I kept my cool and said HMRC would normally send a letter with info, but he just cut me off and hung up before I could say more.
