I received a rather peculiar call from this number, featuring a pronounced Indian accent. The gentleman claimed to represent a company that sounded like Home Repair UK and was inquiring if I required any home maintenance work. He asserted that by sharing the necessary details, my local council would foot the bill for the repairs through his outfit. When I expressed my reluctance, he inquired about my preferred language and began to guess various languages, possibly thinking I might not comprehend English. Curious about their intent, I probed further, only for him to hand me over to a colleague who provided a rather convoluted explanation. It seemed their proposal involved me sending some WhatsApp images of any damage inside my home, which they would then relay to the council. Supposedly, the council would authorise these repairs to be completed by their team within a span of 28 days. Intriguingly, they appeared to presume I lived in a council-owned property-otherwise, they suggested that having purchased my home from the council would disqualify me from receiving any repairs. It was abundantly clear that this company is not local and lacks an understanding of the diverse ownership of residential properties in the UK.
