Watch out, this is definitely a con. According to the TPS site, there are loads of groups out there pretending to be the Telephone Preference Service trying to get people to pay for signing up. Remember, joining the TPS is completely FREE. They’ll never ask you for money or your bank details. Once you’re registered, your number stays on the list without needing to renew it. This bloke rang me up and had my name and where I live already. Said he was from the Telephone Preference service or something like that. He asked about my calls and then suddenly wanted my bank details for phone bills. I refused to give anything, and then he just told me to "enjoy your nuisance calls." Definitely a scam, don't fall for it!

Got a call from this number, but it barely lasted 6 seconds! Luckily, my phone’s Shield & Whisper screening blocked it straight away. These pesky nuisance calls seem to hate that setup and quit before my phone even sounds. I only spot them when I peek at the call history. BT seriously need to step up and tackle these scam callers. Surely, just a few complaints should be enough for them and other network providers to block these numbers, but they appear to be dragging their feet. Makes you wonder if they’re just in it for the money!

She kept saying she only needed the number, not my banking info or anything. I said no and told her I was hanging up. Even after I put the phone down, she kept trying to convince me to hand it over. Pretty dodgy if you ask me.

Got a call from this number just yesterday. The bloke on the other end sounded Asian and gave the name James - yeah, right! He totally messed up my surname and claimed he was calling from TPS, asking if I was getting annoying calls. I told him, "Yeah, from you lot," and then cut him off. Had a ring from this number earlier today. Some bloke with an Asian accent was on the line, and I could hear loads of background noise like those dodgy call centres use. He asked if he was talking to the person who owns this number but never said who he was. I told him I was on the TPS register, so his call was actually illegal. I got a ring from a man with an Asian accent claiming I’d signed up to stop sales calls, and now they supposedly block calls coming from overseas. He had my name, address, and phone number already. Got a call from some guy claiming to be from the telephone preference service, said they could stop all those annoying spam calls. He was Asian, and when I asked if he was gonna stop calling me, he just went quiet. The weirdest part was he knew my full name and old address with postcode! Today, on 10/4/17, I got a call from the same lot, telling me the same story and trying to get my details again. I just ended the call, but they called me right back! I've now reported this number to the proper TPS.

Some bloke phoned saying there was a new improved telephone preference service in place, then went on to ask if my phone bill was paid via direct debit. I told him it wasn’t, and next he wanted the three digit code off my visa card. I said I don’t even have a visa card, and then he just hung up on me. Seriously, don’t hand over any details to these people. Best thing to do is keep them chatting as long as you can so they don’t get a chance to scam anyone else.

He wanted me to give him the expiry date on my switch card, saying it was to update their records so I wouldn’t get any nuisance calls anymore. Today I got a call from this number and the bloke sounded Indian. It was the second call, I missed the first one. He claimed to be from the Telephone Preference Service. He reckoned he had info that nuisance calls were still coming through even though we'd registered. Watch out, this is a total scam. They claim to be calling from the telephone preference service and try to get you to confirm your postcode and name under the pretence of updating records. Then they ask for some "reference number from your cheque book" and warn you they might cut off your phone if you don't comply. The real telephone preference service doesn't charge anything, so never hand over any personal info to these people.

Someone rang up wanting to talk to the house owner. My husband, who wasn’t feeling well, said he couldn’t speak then. That’s when the caller started being quite rude and abusive.

Got a call from someone claiming they were with the TPS. They asked me to verify my postcode, then surprisingly wanted the expiry date off my debit card. I just ended the call straight away.

I got a call from these guys saying they could stop annoying calls, even from abroad, cause they’re meant to be part of the Telephone Preference Service or something. They told me my credit card had expired (which it has) and said I’d paid for their service a couple of years back. Thing is, I’m still getting loads of unwanted calls and honestly, I can’t remember ever agreeing to use their service in the first place. Seems a bit dodgy to me.

They called asking for the home owner, but used my late wife’s maiden name. When I told them there wasn’t anyone here by that name and said it was just me, they quickly hung up. Felt a bit suspicious to me.

Got a call from someone saying they were from the Telephone Preference Service and they were asking for my wife by her name. Thing is, the number's actually in my name. They tried to say they could upgrade the TPS to stop all those annoying calls. Knowing that's not how TPS works, I ended the call before they could even bring up any payment.
