Phone number ☎️ 01607418000 πŸ‘† is reported as a persistent scam operation falsely claiming to represent the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) or a similarly named entity. Callers, often with an Asian accent, frequently confirm personal details like name and address, then attempt to extract sensitive financial information such as debit or credit card expiry dates under the pretext of updating records or activating a nuisance call-blocking service. In just over an hour and twenty minutes today, I got three calls (at 12:44, 1:03, and 2:03). Luckily, BT call blocking caught them all - I’d definitely suggest giving it a go!

Warning: Beware of fraudulent activities! According to the information available on the TPS website, there are several unscrupulous organizations that falsely represent themselves as the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and attempt to charge unsuspecting individuals for registering. It is important to note that registration with the TPS is absolutely free. Please be aware that neither the TPS nor its representatives will ever contact you to request payment or credit card details. Once your telephone number is registered with the TPS, there is no need to update your registration as it will remain active. If you suspect that you have been targeted by one of these fraudulent organizations, please report your concerns to Action Fraud by visiting http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/.

Watch out, this is definitely a con. According to the TPS site, there are loads of groups out there pretending to be the Telephone Preference Service trying to get people to pay for signing up. Remember, joining the TPS is completely FREE. They’ll never ask you for money or your bank details. Once you’re registered, your number stays on the list without needing to renew it. If you think someone’s trying to scam you by pretending to be TPS, make sure to report it straight away to Action Fraud at http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

I received a call from someone who was aware of my name and address. They claimed to be from the Telephone Preference service and inquired about my recent phone calls. However, they then went on to ask for my direct debit information for billing purposes. When I refused to provide any details, the caller warned me that I would continue to receive bothersome calls. It is evident that this was an attempted scam.

Got a call from this number, but it barely lasted 6 seconds! Luckily, my phone’s Shield & Whisper screening blocked it straight away. These pesky nuisance calls seem to hate that setup and quit before my phone even sounds. I only spot them when I peek at the call history. BT seriously need to step up and tackle these scam callers. Surely, just a few complaints should be enough for them and other network providers to block these numbers, but they appear to be dragging their feet. Makes you wonder if they’re just in it for the money!

A woman of Asian descent claimed to be calling from the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) and requested my card number. I informed her that I do not share personal information over the phone. Despite my reluctance, she persisted, stressing that she only required the card number and not any bank details. Of course, I rejected her request firmly and proceeded to end the call. Surprisingly enough, she continued attempting to convince me to provide her with the number even after I had hung up.

Got a call from this number just yesterday. The bloke on the other end sounded Asian and gave the name James - yeah, right! He totally messed up my surname and claimed he was calling from TPS, asking if I was getting annoying calls. I told him, "Yeah, from you lot," and then cut him off. I've signed up with BT's new nuisance call blocker, but despite that, the unwanted calls keep coming. Really frustrating.

Had a ring from this number earlier today. Some bloke with an Asian accent was on the line, and I could hear loads of background noise like those dodgy call centres use. He asked if he was talking to the person who owns this number but never said who he was. I told him I was on the TPS register, so his call was actually illegal. Then he claimed he was from the TPS himself. Didn’t buy it for a second, so I just ended the call straight away.

I was recently contacted by an individual of Asian descent who claimed to be from BT Tps. However, I can confirm that this is a fraudulent scheme. I immediately reported the incident to BT, and they are now referring the matter to their security department. It is important to remain cautious, as the scammer possesses knowledge about your name, address, and payment methods. Please be aware that they may also attempt to obtain your card details. Stay alert!

I got a ring from a man with an Asian accent claiming I’d signed up to stop sales calls, and now they supposedly block calls coming from overseas. He had my name, address, and phone number already. He mentioned I pay my phone bill by direct debit and asked if the card I use was expiring soon, plus he wanted my bank’s sort code to check. I told him there was no way I’d share that kind of info and hung up straight away. The number he called from was 01607 418000.

Got a call from some guy claiming to be from the telephone preference service, said they could stop all those annoying spam calls. He was Asian, and when I asked if he was gonna stop calling me, he just went quiet. The weirdest part was he knew my full name and old address with postcode! I told him that info was wrong but he kept pushing, even tried to get my new address. Like, no chance I’m giving that out! Eventually, he gave up and hung up. I just blocked the number after that. Honestly, these calls come through like 5 or 6 times a week - super frustrating.

I told him straight away I’m registered with TPS, so I shouldn't be getting these annoying calls. He claimed they were from the same TPS, Telephone Preference Service, said he could even stop nuisance calls for me! The bloke sounded Asian, bit cheeky if you ask me. Ended the call pretty sharpish and hung up. Recognised the number but never answered before. Got caught off guard today since I was waiting for a callback and didn’t bother to check who was calling.

I received a call from an Asian gentleman claiming to be from the TPS (Telephone Preference Service). He asked if I was receiving unwanted calls, which I confirmed. He then stated that they would stop starting from tomorrow. Oddly enough, he then inquired about how I pay my telephone bill, specifically questioning if I used direct debit. I asked him why this was relevant to our conversation. He explained that they were updating my details and needed to verify the information on my card. After a brief discussion, it became clear that he was actually looking for the details of my debit card. He became aggressive and demanding, instructing me to go and fetch my card and give him the information. I promptly told him to go away and ended the call. It is evidently a scam because I am registered with the TPS (although it hasn't been helpful in stopping unwanted calls), and they never ask for card details.

This bloke called saying he was from some Telephone Preference service. He knew my address and claimed my Visa card was nearly expired, so he needed to verify some info. I decided to play along to see how much he’d push. When I told him I didn’t have my card handy, he tried to get the details from my cheque book instead. He asked me to read out the 2nd and 3rd group of numbers from it. When I refused, he got pretty annoyed. I told him no genuine company would ask for all those digits just to check something. Some woman rang me up using my name and claimed she was with the Telephone Preference Service. When I asked if she worked for a private firm, she just asked if that’s what I thought. I said yes, sounded like she was trying to push a product on me, then she just cut me off. Total waste of time, trying to sell me a service to block nuisance calls!

Got a call from a lady with an Indian accent, she knew my name and asked if I was still getting annoying calls. She said the calls would stop the next day. I told her I'd already registered with TPS and didn't want any other service. Then the line got all crackly and she raised her voice, saying I couldn't hear well. She said she'd ring back, but I'm definitely not picking up next time.

Looks like this number is just like the others mentioned for 01607418000. I chose not to pick up. Not much use those ex-directory numbers anymore, are they?

Got a call from someone saying my phone bill direct debit was out of date. I asked them where they got my details from and they just cut me off before I could get any answers. Definitely seemed dodgy to me.

Beware, this is a fraudulent activity. The individuals contacting you claim to be from the telephone preference service and are requesting you to provide your name and postcode in order to update their records. They will then proceed to ask for the "reference number from your cheque book" as a means to prevent your phone service from being disconnected. It's important to note that the telephone preference service is actually free, so it is imperative that you do not disclose any personal details to them.

I have received multiple calls from this particular number, though I have missed them each time. Curiosity piqued, I decided to return the call using my landline, as I take care to keep my number private. Astonishingly, I received a message that stated the number was unknown. This certainly appears to be a fraudulent scheme!

I received a suspicious phone call today, purporting to be from the TPS (Telephone Preference Service). However, when I questioned why they needed my address and postcode, they immediately hung up. It seems to be a scam attempt.

Someone rang up wanting to talk to the house owner. My husband, who wasn’t feeling well, said he couldn’t speak then. That’s when the caller started being quite rude and abusive.

I received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the TPS. They asked me to verify my postcode, but then proceeded to request that I provide them with the expiry date on my debit card. I promptly ended the call.

I got a call from these guys saying they could stop annoying calls, even from abroad, cause they’re meant to be part of the Telephone Preference Service or something. They told me my credit card had expired (which it has) and said I’d paid for their service a couple of years back. Thing is, I’m still getting loads of unwanted calls and honestly, I can’t remember ever agreeing to use their service in the first place. Seems a bit dodgy to me.

They called asking for the home owner, but used my late wife’s maiden name. When I told them there wasn’t anyone here by that name and said it was just me, they quickly hung up. Felt a bit suspicious to me.

Got a call from someone saying they were from the Telephone Preference Service and they were asking for my wife by her name. Thing is, the number's actually in my name. They tried to say they could upgrade the TPS to stop all those annoying calls. Knowing that's not how TPS works, I ended the call before they could even bring up any payment.
