Got a call from Luke at Domestic and General Installation Ltd. He already knew my name and mentioned we’d had loft insulation done before through some grant. He offered a free 10-minute check-up, saying there might be issues with mould and condensation. I asked for his full name, phone number and their website. Then he asked if we were registered with the telephone preference service and if I was going to report him. When I said yes, he just ended the call.

She was pretty polite actually. She wanted to come check out my fibreglass set-up. I kept my answers short, and when I told her I couldn't spare five minutes on Monday for the free inspection, she just said have a nice day and ended the call. Just a cold call trying to drum up work, I reckon. The inspection probably would have told me the loft insulation needs replacing. But on the flip side - while I’m up in the loft getting shown all the faults, I bet someone else could be sneaking around downstairs. So yeah, I think it’s a bit risky.

The guy asked if I was (my name) and then said his name was Carl. When I didn’t respond with my name straight away, I asked him “Carl who?” a couple of times. Each time he just said he wouldn’t share his surname. I told him the same thing and then he hung up.

Got a call from a lady who asked for me by name - how did she know that? She started talking about loft insulation and said there were issues around here with it. I told her we'd only recently moved in, so if there was any insulation, it wasn't us who did it, then I just ended the call.

The call began with a guy saying, ‘Benjamin here - I’m a surveyor in Northampton’, asking about our loft insulation. I replied with, ‘How do you even know I have loft insulation?’ then they just ended the call straight away.

No company, government body, or charity will ever ring you up offering free cash, deals, or investments for things like boilers, windows, heating, electrics, or home repairs. As soon as you get a call or message like that, just block the number straightaway. Told her we dont know any Davis family and that this number was given to us only a couple years back. She said she'd take us off her list after that. A young woman called and needed a few prompts to say which company she was ringing about. Eventually, she mentioned it was a firm that does loft insulation and asked if I recalled having ours done. I said no, it must be ages ago. She then said there had been a few complaints nearby. She wouldn’t say who raised them, but it was about fibreglass fibres sticking out and some damp problems in the loft. I asked if she was from a government agency and she said no. So, I just thanked her and ended the call.

Got calls from a firm called Ecoproperty Services pushing spray-on roof insulation. They only hire commission-based salespeople, so they can always say it wasnt officially them. Feels dodgy to me. They ring from loads of local numbers and dont seem to care about TPS. I heard the directors of a very similar biz down in Dorset got busted for fraud. Watch out!

Got a call from a young bloke asking for my missus by her last name. Before I could even reply, he suddenly shouted "I know you hate me" and then just cut the call. Bit strange, but also kind of amusing in a weird way. Makes me wonder if the caller needs some support, cos if they were just messing about, they’ve got a pretty twisted idea of fun. Our number’s unlisted so it worried me that they might’ve somehow worked out our surname.
