I recently received a rather dubious phone call from someone purporting to be from Openreach, who appeared keen to uncover our IP address. This individual seemed to have knowledge of some so-called changes to the network and was probing me about various devices like printers and tablets that we use for internet access. I managed to keep him chatting for a good six and a half minutes. At one point, he requested that I search for 'my IP address' and read the result back to him. I swiftly suggested that anyone thinking they could extract my IP address was barking up the wrong tree! He abruptly ended the call after that. One of his blunders was introducing himself as Andrew, though he didn't quite have the ring of an Andrew about him at all!

Somebody rang me saying they were from the National Crime Agency, told me my NI number’s been put on hold and there’s a warrant for my arrest. They wanted me to verify my NI number even though they just said it was suspended. The bloke said his name was Benjamin Alpert and gave a badge number 73024. When I told him I actually work for the NCA too and could check that badge number easily, he started swearing at me and hung up. Proper cheeky behaviour!

I've received a rather peculiar call from someone claiming to be from Sky, insisting that my broadband speeds aren't meeting their potential. To be honest, I have a strong suspicion that it's yet another scam. When I first engaged with them, I didn't divulge any personal information, but I quickly realised I was far too preoccupied to continue the conversation. They suggested they'd ring me again-let's see if that's the case!

Someone pretending to be from BT called me sayin my phone number was public and I had to switch it to private. But I dont even got BT broadband! What bugs me is that they actually knew my name. Im in Northern Ireland too.

I got a voicemail initially, saying something about National Insurance Fraud, and if I didn’t talk to someone immediately they’d send a warrant for my arrest. I hit 1 like it said, and then a woman named Jennifer came on. She asked if I had a reference number, I told her no, since they’d called me. Then she asked for my name, which I told her two times, and then she just ended the call. She spoke with a heavy accent, didn’t sound fluent.

I’m not one to pick up calls normally, but this time the person on the line claimed they worked for Virgin Media, which is funny because that’s who I get my internet from. I told them to wait a sec and then the call suddenly dropped. I tried calling back but got no reply, and it wasn’t actually Virgin Media. So, I looked up the number to see if it was legit. My advice is to be cautious if you get a ring from this number.
