Got calls from 01562 888729 and 01562 876617 this morning around 9.40am near Kidderminster, Worcs. Dialled 1471 to trace but the numbers turned out to be non-existent. Clearly some clever scam setup. Let your answerphone pick up and if the number’s not familiar on your caller ID, just hang up and don’t bother.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from direct response. She told me I’d been in a car accident within the last couple of years. I told her no. Then she said it might have been vandalism or any other incident I’d claimed for. I still said no. Then she suggested it could have been someone else living with me. Again, no. She said thanks for my time and ended the call. Bit irritating but she was polite enough.

Some bloke rang claiming to be from Direct Response, asked for me by name, said he'd got my details from MIB. When I asked him to explain, he said that was the Motor Insurance Bureau. I questioned if cold calling isn’t banned now, he reckoned it wasn’t coz they’d been given my info. I told him I didn’t believe it and refused to share anything. He claimed he couldn’t stop ringing or close my "file" without a chat. I told him not a chance, and he said he'd ring back tomorrow - yeah right, not happening. Told him I’d be reporting this as a cold call scam.

Just got a call from this company asking about a 'no fault accident'. When I asked which one he meant, he went on to ask if I'd had one in the last 2 years. Someone called me, said her name was Josie from Direct Response, sounded like she was from Liverpool. She wanted to talk about feedback from an insurer regarding some damage to my car. I told her I've been getting loads of calls like that and have no clue where they pop up from. Then she got all defensive and said "I asked about damage, not an accident" and just ended the call.
