Got a phone call on my mobile from someone claiming to be Leanne at Octopus Energy, saying I’m Suleiman and that my account is overdue. It’s a switch up from the scam texts I got pretending to be from EDF energy, also using the wrong name and saying I owed about £400. The weird thing was those texts came from a number I couldn’t look up anywhere.

Someone rang me claiming to be from Octopus and said I owed money. I phoned Octopus directly and they told me that this number has nothing to do with them. Don’t share any details with these people and if they ask for your name, be careful not to just say “yes” because they might record that and use it elsewhere.

Yeah, they really do work for Octopus, chasing debts. They’re just a messy, unprofessional bunch with Indian accents Octopus seems to hire to make themselves look nicer. It is legit though - if you ignore Octopus, they might threaten to wreck your credit score. Best thing is to speak directly with Octopus and sort out any payments, instead of dealing with these folks. Octopus have better people who are easier to talk to.

This number has been blowing up my phone for about two weeks now. They say they're from Octopus Energy, but I contacted Octopus just yesterday and they said they're not aware of any calls like this or why they’d be making them. The lady on the phone wanted to talk about my account, but when I told her I’d just spoken with Octopus and everything was fine, she quickly hung up. I'd be very wary of this number and wouldn’t share any info with them. If you're with Octopus, best to call them yourself to be safe.
