Someone keeps ringing me claiming to be from Octopus Energy, but honestly, they’re useless. They (sound like) they’re calling from India and their English is pretty rough, making it hard to understand them at all. I told them to stop hassling me, but they just won’t listen. Even after I blocked the number, they somehow managed to get through again on my landline. I’ve reported it to Sky, but nothing’s been done about it yet. Seriously, someone should get the BBC involved to sort these annoying calls out.

Im currently in hospital waiting for a heart surgery and this number (01527962354) keeps calling me non stop. Whenever I pick up they just hang up. A few seconds later I get a voicemail telling me to call OCTOPUS ENERGY about my account. Its really annoying.

It showed up as Octopus Energy, but the address didnt match and it felt a bit off.

Best to just ignore this number, it’s a telemarketer.

While I am indeed a customer of Octopus, something seemed off about the whole situation. So, I decided to log into my account to investigate further, and there was absolutely no indication of any issues. I then looked up “who just rang me” and, to my astonishment, found numerous remarks about this number that echoed my concerns! It’s quite astonishing that this particular scam has been targeting individuals since February 2020 and continues to operate without being shut down!

It dawned on me that I really should’ve twigged that numbers beginning with "0", "9", or "1" aren’t typically associated with exchange numbers. However, there’s absolutely no rule against a "9" appearing after an area code. For instance, one might encounter a number like 0161 998 xxxx in Wythenshawe, though it’s worth noting you’d never have three consecutive "9"s, mind you.

Curious, I tried dialing from a different phone a short while later, but the line emitted a bizarre, high-pitched sound reminiscent of an antiquated fax machine (ah, the nostalgia!). Just to clarify, the phone I used isn’t linked to me; it’s one of those old pay-as-you-go models, so I'm safe from any potential scamming should I choose to redial. It's utterly alarming that dodgy characters are exploiting folks, especially now during this cost of living crisis. It really is about time these crooks were held accountable, but, as is often the case, no one seems to take action on behalf of hardworking people being taken advantage of by these lowlifes. Best to steer clear and avoid them like the plague!

I received a call from this number, purporting to be from Octopus Energy. They requested that I provide my full name for 'security' purposes, which struck me as off since they were the ones who initiated the call. Naturally, I found that quite dubious and decided to hang up.

A lady contacted me a few days back, claiming to represent Octopus Energy and asked if she could have a chat. I simply said, "No, you can’t," and hung up. Then, I received a couple more calls from a gentleman with a similar line of questioning, to which I responded just the same.

Got a call from Octopus Energy saying I’d apparently agreed to pay £347.80 monthly, which I definitely haven’t. They wanted me to pay right away over the phone. I told them I already have a standing order of £200 set up, so their info must be off. Asked them to just email me if they really want to get in touch.

Spoke with someone at Octopus and they admitted the info is getting shared. Apparently it's an old system from the last company and fixing it means a costly rewrite. I told them I’d only communicate by post now and asked what happened with the last letter I sent.

Each month, I dutifully pay the agreed sum via Standing Order, yet I keep getting unsolicited calls from a company attempting to go over my account. It’s worth noting that Octopus doesn’t have any offices in that area; however, Sigma does, and it’s also their registered headquarters. Strangely enough, they only want to identify themselves as Octopus. When I questioned the caller about her whereabouts, I received a variety of answers - Birmingham, Scarborough, London, and even a cheeky “Not telling you!” I pressed on with more inquiries, such as who they are actually employed by, and the answer was always Octopus. But when I asked who cuts their paychecks, the answer was still Octopus. I have solid proof that this isn't Octopus, yet last month they managed to send me an email containing my account details. They’ve harassed me with six calls just this week and three times the previous month. I am genuinely incensed by their deceptive tactics, and they’re fully aware that I’ve caught onto their lies, as they promptly hang up thereafter. There are several serious issues at play here, from misusing my data without proper disclosure, which is a clear violation of GDPR, to bombarding me with repeated calls, which could potentially breach the Harassment Act 1997 and lead to a hefty fine of £5000.

They claimed to be from Octopus Energy but I’m actually in credit and they only ring if you owe them. They usually just estimate your meter readings if you don’t send them in. Told them I’d ring back cos the number I know for Octopus is different from this one (01527962354).

I received a call from Octopus Energy regarding an outstanding bill. At first, the sound quality was dreadful, prompting me to hang up and redial. Thankfully, it improved once I mentioned that the agent's headset needed tweaking. After that, we managed to chat about my account, and the representative took steps that successfully turned my account from being in the red to a positive balance. I'm unsure if this number is used for anything apart from payment issues, but I had the strong feeling the agent was working from home rather than at an office.

Yet another phony call from the so-called electric octopus, how tedious! The most frustrating bit? It claimed that if you had a gas leak, you should press 1, so naturally, I gave it a go to see what the fuss was about. To my surprise, all I could hear in the background were people chatting and chuckling. Then, the chap who was supposed to be from Octopus Gas just started cackling and said, "We're closed, mate," with a rather flippant attitude. I mean, really? Just because gas leaks may not be an emergency for them doesn’t mean this nonsense should carry on! These fake callers are a right pain, isn’t it? They seem to underestimate our intelligence. Us Brits aren't gullible! We’ll make it our mission to track down every single one of these scammers and expose them for what they truly are.
