I got a call from a guy who sounded Indian and said he was from Octopus. He knew my account name right off the bat, but then he started asking me to send an email with all my private details. Felt dodgy so I just ended the call.

Someone keeps ringing me claiming to be from Octopus Energy, but honestly, they’re useless. They (sound like) they’re calling from India and their English is pretty rough, making it hard to understand them at all. I told them to stop hassling me, but they just won’t listen. Even after I blocked the number, they somehow managed to get through again on my landline. I’ve reported it to Sky, but nothing’s been done about it yet. Seriously, someone should get the BBC involved to sort these annoying calls out.

I got a call on my mam's mobile, who sadly passed away not long ago. This time it was for real, from Octopus chasing a debt because her bank had frozen the payments. So the call was probably from a debt collector even though they pretended to be Octopus themselves, which I guess is just how these things work. It wasn’t a scam though. You’d think I’d have noticed that phone numbers in an area never begin with 0, 1 or 9. But actually, it’s not always the case - like in places such as Wythenshawe where numbers can start with 99 after the STD code, for example 0161 998 xxxx. Although obviously, three 9s together at the start would be unusual.

Got a call from someone saying they were with Octopus Energy, sounded like a robot voice, and they told me to ring 01527 962354. I gave it a go from another phone a few minutes later, which isn't even mine and is just an old pay-as-you-go, so no risk of getting scammed back. When I dialled, it got picked up but all I heard was this really sharp, weird noise - kind of like those old fax machines, if you remember those! It’s really worrying how these dodgy folks are targeting people, especially now with the cost of living so bad. Feels like no one cares about ordinary folks getting fleeced by these cheats. Seriously, just stay clear of it!

Proper Octopus caller this time. I got a bit freaked out and phoned Octopus to check, told them I was scared I got scammed after reading stuff online and gave them my details. Lately, I've been getting these annoying calls from some company claiming to be Octopus Energy. I pay my bill monthly through a standing order, so I’m not sure why they keep trying to chat about my account. The number calling me is from Redditch (01527 962354), which threw me off because Octopus don’t have an office there. But it turns out Sigma operates out of Redditch, and that’s where their registered office is. They always say they’re with Octopus but never properly confirm who they are. When I asked the woman where she’s calling from, she gave me all sorts of places - Birmingham, Scarborough, London - and then just dodged the question completely. Asked who she’s employed by, she kept saying Octopus. Tried pressing further about who actually pays her, same answer. I’ve got proof this isn’t the real Octopus, though last month they managed to email me my account details which confused me a bit. They’ve called me half a dozen times this week and a few times last month too. I’m really fed up with the lies and the fact they hang up as soon as I challenge them. This feels like a breach of GDPR to me since they’re using my data without proper disclosure, and bombarding me with calls could be harassment - something that’s punishable by law, apparently with a fine of up to £5000 under the Harassment Act 1997.

I rang Octopus Energy as I’m a customer. Later the same day, I got a call from 01527962354 in Redditch. They said they were from Octopus and used my proper name. I told them I’d already spoken to someone from Octopus earlier. They started going on about some files not being up to date but seemed to realise I wasn’t falling for it. Octopus Energy have warned that scam calls are going around. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! SCAMMERS everywhere these days. It’s a dreadful state of affairs. I got a call from Octopus Energy about a bill I hadn’t paid. At first, the line was awful - so bad I actually hung up and dialled back. Once I mentioned the agent needed to fix their headset, the sound got a lot better. We talked through the situation, and the person helped sort it out, changing my account from owing money to having credit on it. I’m not sure if this number is used for anything else besides chasing payments. The caller seemed like they were working from home rather than an office.

Yet another phony call from the so-called electric octopus, how tedious! The most frustrating bit? It claimed that if you had a gas leak, you should press 1, so naturally, I gave it a go to see what the fuss was about. To my surprise, all I could hear in the background were people chatting and chuckling. Then, the chap who was supposed to be from Octopus Gas just started cackling and said, "We're closed, mate," with a rather flippant attitude. I mean, really? Just because gas leaks may not be an emergency for them doesn’t mean this nonsense should carry on! These fake callers are a right pain, isn’t it? They seem to underestimate our intelligence. Us Brits aren't gullible! We’ll make it our mission to track down every single one of these scammers and expose them for what they truly are.
