Some bloke called Matthew White rang me up saying I owed money to HMRC for something I supposedly did, said I’d get arrested! He told me he’s gonna speak to my solicitors. Apparently this guy claimed to be from HRMC saying I had £683.80 coming back to me for overpaying taxes over the past five years. He explained since of the Pandemic, refunds were being paid straight into bank accounts instead of cheques by post 'cos they understood people were struggling and wanted to speed things up. He then asked for my bank info but I told him to just send it through the post since they already have my details. At that point, the phone got slammed down on me followed by a rude expletive.

Got a call from these lot again today. Straight away I knew it was bogus - anyone with a bit of sense knows HMRC don’t ring you out of the blue, they always send a letter first asking you to get in touch. Plus, I’m not behind on any tax, so there’s no way they’d be after me. I never bother listening to any automated messages or go along with the call.
