Not really sure, as soon as I answered the call it just cut off. But I had received a message on my phone from a different number claiming to be the NHS Track and Trace, saying I'd been near someone with Omicron. They asked me to order a free test but needed me to cover postage, so they asked for my bank details, home phone and address. I gave everything, only to find out later it was a scam! So I think that call I got might be connected since they had my landline number too.

Got a call from some bloke saying he was with Amazon Security, said someone logged into my account last night and made a purchase. He asked me to check my emails and whether I usually use my phone or laptop. I just told him I'm not answering any questions and ended the call. With 2FA enabled, there's no way anyone's guessing my password or the one-time code. Scammers like this should just buzz off!

I received a call from a chap with a distinct foreign accent, who asserted he was representing Amazon and wanted to discuss an order of mine. What struck me as quite alarming was that he already possessed my name and address, yet he dialled a number that isn’t linked to any of my correspondence with Amazon. The call got cut off before I had the chance to probe into what else he knew. I later reached out to Amazon, and they confirmed that this call wasn’t from them at all. Quite dodgy!

Just a couple of posts below this one, I’ve put down some steps you can take to stop these dodgy scam calls and texts. Loads of people across the UK get these every day, but if we all put in the effort to report them, the police and government might finally take serious action. Don’t expect someone else to sort it for you. It doesn’t take much time at all. I’ve bookmarked the ‘Action Fraud’ site, shot an email to my local MP (got an interesting reply, too), and I always forward scam messages to ‘[email protected]’. But it won’t make a difference if only I’m doing it.

I recently had a rather odd encounter that left me scratching my head. A woman, presumably of Asian descent, introduced herself as being with Amazon Security. She inquired if I had placed an order for a mobile phone priced at £700 through their platform. After a brief exchange, I cheekily told her to take a hike. To my surprise, she called me back just a couple of minutes later, using the phone number 01514 560721. When I asked why on earth she had the nerve to call me again, she seemed quite taken aback and questioned why I had ended our last conversation. I pointed out that Amazon would never reach out to me from the number she was using, at which point she abruptly ended the call. Quite the cheeky experience, I must say!

Had a call from someone saying they were from Amazon, claiming my account had been hacked and an iPhone bought using it. But with the way I set up my security, there’s no way that could happen. I wasn’t having any of it and told the bloke he was a rubbish scammer. He started getting all cocky, so I gave him a proper lesson in English - a bit of good old-fashioned Anglo-Saxon swearing.
