I got a call from someone saying they worked in the Claim Refund Department of a firm that deals with appliances and support. They said I was owed about £149.00. When I told her I wasn’t convinced and was a bit sceptical, she started getting quite rude and pushy, which caught me off guard.

So earlier today this lady who sounded like she was from East Asia rang me, saying she was from Virgin Media and had something to do with my broadband speed. She’d called from numbers 01282 715531 and also 0039 3509 49163. When I mentioned I’m a bit hard of hearing, she seemed to get annoyed. I asked her nicely if she could just send me an email instead - thought if she really was Virgin Media, they’d already have all my details. I kept insisting cause recently VM had shut off my hub by mistake and I’d had to get an engineer out not long ago.

I tried to keep her talking to waste a bit of her time, but as soon as she twigged I wasn’t fooled, she started getting aggressive and then just hung up. I’ve blocked the number and reported it to the ICO now. (Action Fraud aren’t really helpful unless you’ve been scammed for real - kind of like the police only taking notice if you’ve had something nicked, not just an attempted break-in.)

Somebody rang pretending to be from Sky, saying there were “errors” on my router causing slow internet. They asked me about the number of lights lit up on the box and then requested my phone number, ideally an Android, so they could send a diagnostic tool - seemed fishy, like malware. When I told them I already checked the router logs and saw nothing wrong, they just cut the call. Just a heads up, if Sky genuinely had an issue, they’d be able to check your router themselves without needing your phone.

I got a call from a lady with an accent who said she was calling from Sky. She told me my internet had been hacked and that more than 10 devices were connected, even some from California. When I told her I don’t have any gadgets like that, she just ended the call right away.

Got another dodgy call claiming to be BT Technical Services saying my internet was "compromised". I just ignored what they were saying and quietly made myself a cuppa instead...............

I got a call from a lady with an Asian accent, asking for me by name. She said she was calling from Microsoft and wanted to know about my computer. Seemed fishy to me, like a scam. I just told her I wasn’t interested and ended the call.
