Got a call from someone claiming to be “world wide web tech support,” telling me my computer had nasty viruses and they could fix it. I was pretty sure it was a con, so I asked for their phone number. They gave me 0800 431 6661, but when I checked with 1471, the real number showed up as 01508 499565. The bloke kept saying only he could remove these so-called infections, but needed me to cooperate. After a while, I got annoyed and told him I’d ring back. Hopefully, he’s still hanging about and not trying to trick someone else right now.

Some bloke rang claiming he was from a tech support team and said there was harmful software recently installed on my PC. I asked him to clarify which device he was talking about and to give me the IP address. He mentioned it was a Windows machine, but I told him I don’t use any computers with Windows, just an Apple one. He tried to correct me again, but I just told him I wasn’t interested and to continue anyway. Then he wanted to know what operating system I was running, but I said I wasn’t going to share that, and he immediately ended the call.

Got a call from a bloke with a strange accent claiming to be from some IT firm, said there was a problem with my computer. He asked if I was the primary user of the machine. When I asked why he needed that info, he reckoned some harmful files had been downloaded while I was on it and said it had to be fixed. Told him I wasn’t buying what he was selling and thought it was a scam, ready to hang up. He tried to argue back but I just ended the call there and then.

I received a call from a bloke with a foreign accent who claimed I’d been in touch with them. Utter nonsense! I ended the call straight away. After doing some digging, it appears this number is linked to Norwich (specifically Hempnall).
