Sometimes if youve just recently got your phone number, the person who had it before might be the one who owes the money. It could be useful to chat with your phone provider about this. Another thing to watch for is scammers faking the real Westcott number to scare folks into handing over cash. Or if you really do owe them money, the best move is to contact the creditors and sort out your payments.

Got a call from some random number, they left a voicemail with a reference code asking me to ring them back. Honestly, I can’t believe the proper agencies haven’t done anything to shut these lot down. These days, I get loads of calls from numbers I don’t recognise, so I keep my answerphone on all the time. Usually, scammers don’t bother leaving messages, but real callers do, so at least we know who to get back to.

The caller supposedly has a name, something like Cachel Burnson or similar. Strangely annoying, the message starts with "this is a message for" and then doesn’t say any name at all.
