They called me but didn’t say a word. If they say they’re from BT then it’s definitely a scam. The number they used, 01482, is from Kingston upon Hull (which is where I live). Hull has its own phone network called Kingston Communications or KCOM, and they basically have the monopoly here. BT doesn’t operate in Hull at all, so this call was totally dodgy. Hull’s telecoms are all independent.

This number rang me a couple times and when I finally picked up, noone was there. I was looking into BT Full Fibre the night before and might have put my phone number in at some stage, so I’m guessing it’s actually them calling. Usually BT’s service is pretty average, and they never got back to me anyway. I’ve never been a fan of BT but full fibre sounds good. Still not sure if I want to bother; I’m wary to deal with them again after past hassle.

Today, I received a rather dubious phone call from someone attempting to masquerade as a BT engineer. It was quite apparent that he was not prepared for a conversation with someone who actually understands the ins and outs of the job! It told me I was in a queue and appreciated my patience. After hanging on for a bit, I started to suspect it was just a ruse to keep me on the line, so I decided to hang up and checked the last number that called, using 1471. Same old story, I had a call from an unknown number and of course no voicemail was left. Most likely scammers or annoying telemarketers. My tip - just ignore it and absolutely don’t ring them back!

A bloke called saying he was Jack from BT in Hull, trying to talk about my phone deal. I told him I wouldn’t talk about it on the phone for security reasons. Then he said he wasn’t allowed to send emails either. So, I just hung up.

Received a call from a chap named Jack, purporting to be from BT in Hull, and he was keen to conduct some sort of service review. I wasn’t having any of it and politely turned him down.

Had a call yesterday from someone saying they were with BT but they started asking stuff I thought was odd so I just hung up. I then called BT directly from my mobile and they said no one from their side contacted me, so it's definitely a scam.

Nice chap, claimed he was calling from BT. I was on my mobile when he phoned my landline. Told him I was busy on another call and suggested he try again tomorrow. I don’t plan to pick up. This website is brilliant, seriously. Why don’t BT or the like provide something like this? Cheers to the team!

Received a call purporting to be from BT, saying they wanted to ensure I was on the best plan available. The caller came across as quite convincing and competent, yet I couldn't shake off my doubts.

Got a call today from this awful woman claiming she was checking if I’m on the best plan. She said she was ringing from Hull for BT and wanted my contract info. Honestly, what did she take me for? As if I’d just wake up and hand over that stuff. Seems like there’s more and more clever scammers these days. I heard BT blocks this number but still got through - why’s that then?

Just got a call from this number, there was complete silence then some loud breathing, I tried to fix the call but had to yank the phone from the socket in the end. Pretty dodgy.

Called me but just cut off as soon as my voicemail kicked in. Didn’t leave any message which seems a bit dodgy and annoying, especially after seeing what others say about this number.

Whenever an unknown number shows up on my caller ID, I just ignore it. Out of interest, since the 1st of January I've been jotting down these unknown callers. This particular one was on the 27th. I’ve had a few voicemails from people I know, but none of these annoying time-wasters have bothered to leave a message. And no way would I even think about calling them back!

He said he was callin' from BT tryin' to sort me out with a better deal. When I told him I’d already opted out of their marketing, he claimed I was still on BT’s list, and if I wasn’t, then calling me would be against the law!

Got two calls from them today already, both times the answerphone picked up and after a few seconds the caller just hung up without leaving anything. I never pick up if I don’t know who it is, so honestly they’re just bothering themselves. Saw some comments and it seems like someone even left a message pretending to be them back in July 2019 to try and trick anyone looking them up here!

01482807759. Its that time of year again when the scammers are out in full force. Got a call from some lot trying to trick me into upgrading a service I don’t even have, claiming they need my bank info. Like, yeah right!

Some bloke claimed to be from BT in Hull and said he wanted to make sure my package was the best deal for me. Kept pushing to do a quick check even after I told him I was tied up and would sort it out next year.

Got a call from a woman speaking with a proper English accent saying she was from BT, but the number showed up as Hull. Funny thing is, Hull's the only place in the UK without BT, thanks to Kingston Communications (look it up if you don’t believe me). That alone screams scam to me, since BT only contacts customers from 0800 numbers, not local Hull ones. Whoever’s behind this is clearly after your details. Don’t hand over any info, no matter what they say.

01482 246947 Just got told by BT support they had to block this number, and apparently I’m the fourth one today to do so. Definitely a scam, no doubt about it. Seems like they’re stepping up their calls to people recently.

I recently received a courteous phone call from a woman using this number, who mentioned that she wished to chat about local matters. However, I expressed my displeasure, as I’ve been inundated with scam calls lately. She prompted me for the last three digits of my account, but I firmly declined to engage further. To be honest, her tone was fairly convincing, but I’m utterly exhausted by all these unsolicited calls.

Oddly comforting to hear a proper English voice for once. They even got my last name right, no background noise or anything. Said they wanted to upgrade my current "package". Asked a few questions and I wasn’t quite sure if it was legit. So, I sent the number straight to my junk folder. Meanwhile, I’ve had about seven calls yesterday from people with Indian accents, all claiming my IP address was at risk. Seriously, when will BT crack down on these annoying and risky calls?

We've installed a call blocker app on our phone that we found on this site, and it works wonders in keeping unwanted calls at bay. If a number isn't on our approved callers list, it simply doesn't connect. Fingers crossed this tip proves useful!

This number is a total scam. I called BT to verify, and they confirmed it’s nothing to do with them and have gone ahead and blocked it for me.

Clearanswer, a legit BT Partner based at Essex House, Manor Street, Hull HU1 1YU. They use loads of 01482 numbers. I've told them lots that it seems proper dodgy and they really ought to sort it out.

Someone phoned claiming to be from BT, checking if there was any issues in my neighbourhood. I just replied that everything was okay and then hung up.

Keep getting calls that cut off as soon as I pick up. They leave a message claiming to be from BT and say they'll call again. I’ve checked with BT twice and they say they haven’t tried to contact me and don’t know the number. Given the many “safe” tags here, I reckon it’s some company pushing BT upgrades. If that’s right, BT really should sort this out because these silent calls are pretty creepy, and I don’t think they’re even allowed.
