They’re after a way into your computer. Politely decline, but keep the conversation going to safeguard others from falling into this trap. What’s more, they even send a text to your mobile phone with a PIN to supposedly verify your identity. Though it appears to be from BT, I assure you it most certainly isn’t!

Some bloke rang saying he was from BT tech support, telling me there were 11 strangers using my wifi. He introduced himself as David and asked me to prove he was genuine by doing a Google search of a 'CLSI code' using my phone - which was connected to my wifi anyway! I’ve got a background in IT, so this raised red flags straight away. When I questioned his weird approach, he got quite rude and kept shouting over me. I ended the call and contacted BT directly, who confirmed it was a scam. I've blocked the number now.

Some bloke rang saying he was with Amazon, asking if I’d bought an iPhone 7 around Liverpool. He wanted me to fill out a cancellation form right then and there over the phone. I told him I’d ring Amazon myself once I was back home. He kept saying I couldn’t check the order because it was supposedly on hold.
