I found it useful to snap a sharp picture of my gas and electric meters first, then check the meter model against the latest info on the Gov UK site via OPSS (Office for Product Safety and Standards). Their updated list showed some electric meters last about 5 years more than the older records said. So, it’s possible that E.ON Next doesn’t have the accurate data for the meters they’ve actually fitted.

You can block the number but the voicemails keep coming through, leaving me stuck having to ring it every day just to clear the alerts.

I got a call from a woman claiming to be with Eon, saying my meter was near the end of its life. She asked me to confirm my name and the first part of my address, which I did. Then she started asking how I make my payments, and that’s when I got suspicious it might be a scam. I told her if she was really from Eon, she’d already have that info and then just hung up.

They’ve rung me up three times this month alone, just like loads of others have mentioned. The calls claim to be from "E.on," saying I need to switch to a smart meter as my current one is supposedly no longer suitable. Fortunate for me, I had an electrician around who said it’s best to ignore the calls - just some sort of pressure technique. I found loads of info from Ofgem and MSE confirming that going smart isn’t a must. What really worries me is the £2k+ I have credited with E.on, since I can’t lower my DDs by more than about 10%, so I’ve been paying more than I actually use.

Eon keeps ringing me saying my meter’s out of date. I’ve told them loads of times to just book an appointment and swap it, but I don’t want a smart meter at all. Then they go on about how I have to get one, which just makes me laugh. I’ve told them to send me something in writing instead. Seems legit to me. I've told E-on Next loads of times to stop ringing me and that I'm not interested in a smart meter. Right after a call from this number that was on silent, I got a text from a different number. The message included a real E-on contact number you can check: "Hi, We tried calling to upgrade your meter as it's at the end of its life and must be changed. Please ring us back on 01443544985 E.ON Next." This is just the most recent in a bunch of texts I’ve been getting.

Got a call from someone saying they were with EON, saying our meter was about to die and they had to swap it out by law. I told the bloke to ring my husband instead since he handles all our utility stuff. Had a quick look online and saw a few warnings about this, so pretty sure it’s a scam. If he does call my husband, he’s not gonna make it easy for him, that’s for sure!

Got a call from "E-on Next" at about 1:31pm on the 18th of November 2024. I didn’t say a thing, just stayed silent. They kept going “Hello? Hello?” a couple times but then they gave up and hung up. I’ve passed the number on to the TPS.

I looked up this number on 'Who Called Me' and honestly, glad I didn't pick up when it rang on my phone earlier today. I've been with Eon Next for my gas and electric for quite some time, and they’ve been on my back about fitting a smart meter for years now. Just the other day, they said my electricity meter's 12 years old and should be swapped out since it might not be giving correct readings. I explained I’m not interested in a smart meter but would be okay with a traditional one. They said that wasn't an option at all. Bit frustrating if you ask me!

Got a call at 5:45pm on 12th Nov, they even left a voicemail. An automated female voice told me I'm eligible for a new smart meter because my gas and electric meters are nearly up for replacement. Honestly, it sounded legit - reminds me of that lyric from Manic Street Preachers, and apparently they're based around Pontypridd! Earlier this year, Eon reached out to me with the same info. If you're uncertain, just ring Eon's free customer service line instead of the number they left - they’ll help you out no problem. 👍🙂

This number isn’t actually Eon, it’s a con. Fraudsters have been ringing from numbers very close to the real Eon one. I hope anyone interested in getting a 'smart' meter saw that BBC One show about these so-called ‘smart’ meters recently - turns out they’re not so clever after all! If you do decide to get one, make sure you book it through the official website and never agree to anything from an unsolicited call. Always ask what happens if there are issues, like what you do when the battery in the display unit runs out, because that’s guaranteed to happen after a few years.

Got a ring from this number earlier, some bloke claiming to be from Eon about updating meters and that they had to inform me by law or something. I told him the account is actually my mum’s, she’s in sheltered housing and the warden looks after all the meters. After that, he quickly said the meters didn’t need any updates and just hung up! 😂

Got a missed call on my home phone 1471 from the 8th of Oct around 4 in the afternoon. The number was 01443544969, but no message left on the voicemail. I checked online and relieved I didn’t pick up - looks like a scam from what others have said. It's certainly not EON; they wouldn’t ring customers like this.
