I received a rather dubious phone call yesterday, with someone claiming that the warranty on my washing machine had run its course and that they could offer a discounted extension. Naturally, I was curious as to how they managed to obtain my personal details, particularly regarding data protection. The caller rambled on about some databases, but it was quite clear that this was nothing more than a scam attempt masquerading as an offer to extend my warranty. I had no qualms about expressing my disdain for their sneaky tactics, especially knowing how such calls could trick someone who’s not as savvy as I am. I then rather pointedly advised the chap to reconsider his life choices and promptly blocked the number!

He said his name was Steven Deval and claimed the washer’s warranty was about to run out. I thought that was hilarious considering my washer is more than 20 years old and has already been scrapped. Plus, he had an old address for me - I’ve lived somewhere else for 6 years now!

This bloke called about my washing machine saying the guarantee was nearly up, but its been over a decade old! When I asked for any paperwork, he claimed that COVID meant they couldn’t send anything out. Bit strange since I still get letters for my TV licence and bills for gas and electricity all the time. Weird thing is, they told me I’d been calling them, which is rubbish because I never did. Looks like they rang me but somehow my number showed up on their phone instead. Watch out for this kind of dodgy behaviour!

Had a call from some bloke trying to con me into paying for ‘insurance’ on my washing machine, which hasn’t been under warranty for like 8 years now. It’s obvious these scammers have a way of getting our details without us giving them out. Honestly, someone needs to put a stop to this nonsense. It’s the older folks who might actually believe this rubbish, and that just isn’t fair.

Got a call from a bloke saying my washing machine service contract was about to expire. I told him he’d called an office, not a home, and there’s no washing machine here anyway. Then he goes, “Oh, it must be at your house then, is it a Bosch?” I said couldn’t afford a Bosch, and asked him to take my number off his list. Didn’t mention my washer’s actually an Indesit. Just another one having a go, as per usual.
