Some young lass called and asked if I was Mr (she gave a name). I said no, then she tried again with a different name. Still no. Then she asked if I lived at number 18 (said a road). I told her no, and she switched to number 16 on the same street. Also no. I ended up phoning 1471 and got Halifax number back. Makes you wonder why they even bother, honestly.

Got a call from Advice Direct the other day, biggest cold call marketing pitch I’ve had in ages. Tried pushing their services hard even after I said I wasn’t interested. Bit too persistent for my liking! If you get their call, be prepared for a proper sales spiel.

They claimed they weren’t trying to sell me anything, just wanted to get in touch because apparently they had a record of me working in the industry. When I asked where they found my info, I mentioned I’m on the do not call list, but they said that didn’t matter since they weren’t selling anything. They said they got my details from some national worker database - I’ve never heard of that before and doubt it’s real. Felt like a scam to me. Why isn’t the ICO cracking down on these sorts of calls more? I told them I wasn’t interested and they ended the call without any fuss.
