The call appeared to be from Glasgow. Since I had my phone with me, I picked up. A man with an Asian accent introduced himself, but I didn’t quite get his name properly. He then asked how I was doing. I politely told him to leave me alone and ended the call. Afterwards, I looked up the number on this website and found out it was a scam.

On the 3rd of February 2023, I received a call from someone claiming to be from O2. They inquired if I had a contract with them, to which I replied negatively. The moment I said I wasn’t, they hung up without a second thought. Definitely sounds like a scam to me!

If your goal is to actually help stop these scam calls, take a bit of time to check out the three posts below. They share loads of useful info. Also, just a heads up - don’t ever ring back a number you don’t recognise. It’s honestly a really dumb move. Sometimes those spoofed numbers might belong to someone innocent, or it could be part of a wangiri scam or something similar.

Got a call from someone claiming to be EE, offering me a 20-25% discount on my current call plan. The caller, Aaron, rang me yesterday from a Coventry number which I have since blocked. I asked him quite a few times to send the offer through in writing so I could review it properly. He kept saying there was no need for me to take any action, they would just apply it automatically. I told him no thanks, I don’t deal with this stuff over the phone, so if he could put it in writing, goodbye. Thinking of blocking that number too and reporting it straight to EE.

Got a call from someone claiming to be EE, saying I could get 20-25% off my current phone plan. The caller was Aaron again. He rang me yesterday from a Coventry number that I’ve already blocked. I asked him a few times to send the offer in writing so I could consider it properly. But he just kept saying I didn’t need to do anything, they’d sort it all out for me. I told him no, I won’t agree to anything over the phone, so send it in writing or goodbye. I’m about to block this number too and will be reporting it straight to EE.

I received a phone call from someone purporting to be an O2 representative, indicating that they were set to apply a discount to my account and that I should be on the lookout for a forthcoming text message with a specific code. They insisted that I would have to provide this code to them in order for the discount to be processed. However, the message I received wasn’t as expected; it contained an account recovery code with a clear warning not to share it with anyone, even people from O2. When I raised the concern that their request seemed quite off, the caller dismissed my doubts and reiterated their demand for the code. After that, I decided to end the call. It was evident that this was a scam attempt aimed at gaining access to my phone account via the O2 online service, preying on those who might overlook the warning in the text. The number attempted to contact me multiple times afterwards, but I've since blocked it.

I attempted to return the call, but it wouldn't go through - clearly some sort of scammer at play.
