Got a call from a young woman claiming to be from India, said I was due a refund for my washing machine insurance. When I asked how she’d send it, I said cheque, but she said they only do bank transfers and asked for my bank info. The number she called from was 0141 489 0689, but it didn’t sound Scottish at all. Honestly, I reckon these scammers don’t realise how many times we’ve had calls like this already.

I received a phone call from this number earlier today, claiming to be the National Refund Department. They stated that they were looking to reimburse me for some washing machine insurance I supposedly had from four years back. They were quite keen to find out whether I preferred the refund paid into a savings or current account. Thankfully, I didn’t divulge any personal information. After doing a bit of online research, it turns out this is a scam. Be wary!

Received a call from someone purporting to be with UK Talk. The individual had a sort of Mid Asian accent-might even be Indian-and was quite rude. Typically, I steer clear of calls from numbers I don't recognise; however, on the rare occasion I do pick up, I make a point of asking for all their information in a very deliberate manner. I take my time, requesting them to spell things out, and it’s amusing how they often lose their patience and just cut the line!

Received a call from this number for the second time now. They had a funny accent and completely butchered my name. Apparently, they claimed I had some compensation waiting from old insurance linked to my washing machine. I told them I didn’t have any such insurance, but they insisted it was from yonks ago. When they asked for my bank details, I just cut the conversation short and hung up. No chance I’m sharing that sort of information!

Got a call from someone named Sylvia, said she was from the Hotpoint Washing Machines Refund Dept. She claimed there was an insurance fee wrongly taken from my bank account and wanted my details to send the money back. I just told her to put it back into the same account they’d taken it from in the first place. Funny enough, our last two washers have been Zanussi - not Hotpoint - and they've been working fine without any sort of appliance insurance from Hotpoint.
