I rang Scottish Power to check if a certain number was theirs, using the one listed on their official site. The person on the phone confirmed it straight away without even checking. They wanted to discuss a bill with my relative. I handle his money matters, so during the call I asked to be added to his account while raising a complaint. The adviser said she’d sorted it, but later I found out she’d only linked my phone number to his account, which just led to me getting constant calls. They refuse to speak to me properly. Needless to say, they’re not getting a single penny from us.

I think these lot have some kind of insider info. They’re fine with Scottish Power sharing your details with some third party to come take meter readings. Then they told me to have my husband ring them back but said I couldn’t do it myself because of privacy issues. Weird!

Turns out this number is linked to Stuart Wright at 21a Plymouth Road, Barnt Green, Birmingham, B45 8JF. Guess we’ve got a pretty good lead on where this scammer calls home! No surprise it’s quite a roomy place, considering he’s always ripping people off!

Could be Scottish Power messing about. I’ve been arguing with them about a bill that’s way off, even though I’ve sent them meter readings and pics loads of times. They charged me for a meter I don’t even have - seems like business as usual with them. Normally, when they call from the official number, they’re quite direct, but their tone can get a bit intimidating - talking about court and forcing a prepay meter on me, even though it’s their mistake. I paid everything up when I closed my account! Strange thing is, after calling their official helpline, I got calls from South Africa, but they were still legit Scottish Power reps. This number though feels dodgy to me, probably some scam. Maybe someone’s got hold of info about disputed accounts because they seem to have loads. Despite customer service being polite, the company really is a mess. Got a call from someone saying they were from Scottish Power about my account. Since I actually get my electricity from them, it seemed legit at first. I had a reminder earlier to settle my bill. The guy on my mobile had an accent that didn’t sound local, so I didn’t want to give them any info. Then a woman with a Scottish accent rang my landline, but I just hung up and rang the company directly to pay. This is the second time I've been called like this in a couple of months. Got a call from some bloke in Glasgow who said he was James from Scottish Power. He started asking loads of questions which made me feel a bit iffy since I’ve never had calls like this from them before. Then he reckoned I owe over £400 and wanted me to pay up straight away or they'd send it to a debt collector. I do owe them some money but nowhere near that much. I told him to send me the details in writing, no emails. Not sure if this is a con or if I’m really in trouble here.

Got a call from someone claiming to be Scottish Power, which we actually have an account with. They wanted to speak to the account holder and asked him to verify his name, the first line of his address, and the postcode. Then they asked for his date of birth, but he wasn’t comfortable giving that out, and when they asked for his phone number he refused again, pointing out that they were the ones who called him first. They said they needed the info to access our account, but wouldn’t share any basic details like what tariff we’re on or if we have smart meters. The callback number they gave us was indeed Scottish Power’s number. Decided not to bother calling back. The caller had an Asian accent.
