So I got a call from a woman named Rose, who claimed she was from BT security. She said the international cyber crime folks had flagged an issue with my internet. I asked for the number of that agency, and she gave me 0144169416. She also told me her direct number was 01622370264 and that she worked at 81 Newgate, London. She said her full name was Rose Wilton. Seemed a bit dodgy to me.

Got a call from a woman with an asian accent, said her name was Rose and that she was from “bt cyber security”. She said someone was using our internet without permission. I was a bit iffy about it, so I asked her for a contact number to check things out later. She gave me a 0141 number and said I could ask for either her or her supervisor. Something about it just felt off!

They just rang me and said the exact same stuff, then gave me this number to ring so I could talk to a senior supervisor.

Just got a call from some guy named Mike saying there was weird stuff going on with our internet. He sounded Indian or something. Then I saw a missed call from 01227 722786 but didn’t bother answering it. Maybe this info helps someone. Cheers, Nick.

I got a call from a woman with an Asian accent who said her name was Rose and that she was ringing from BT. She mentioned that someone else was supposedly using my internet and said she’d wait for me to call her back. She gave me the number 0141 416 9419, but when I did a 1471 check it showed up as 02476694276 instead.

Got a call from a woman, sounded asian, said she was calling from BT about a supposed broadband security issue. When I asked her to verify my full name or account number, she just hung up on me. Seriously, watch out - don’t let these scam callers get anywhere near your internet or PC.

So, I got a call from someone named Nancy, pretty much the same tale as what others have said. I played along for a bit but then lost interest and told her I’d ring her back. That’s how I ended up phoning this number, only for a bloke to pick up sounding quite surprised. Might give them a buzz at a weird time again, just for a laugh.

Got a call from a man called Peter with a heavy Indian accent. He told me my internet was supposedly hacked and said he needed to get into my laptop or PC. Thing is, I don’t use either one! When I told him this, he got really flustered and upset. In the end, he just hung up on me. What a mess.

I had the most amusing encounter with a bloke who sounded distinctly Indian, claiming to be Nigel from BT, despite the fact he was supposedly calling from London! The call quality was atrocious, which I found quite entertaining given he was supposedly representing a major telecommunications company. I decided to humour him for a good 25 minutes, weaving a tale of confusion until nature called, and I insisted I’d ring him back. Unsurprisingly, he was rather apprehensive about that, fully aware he’d been led astray at that point. The con artists have this routine where they assert that your router has been hacked and then guide you through some irrelevant admin screens (you know, commands like "eventvwr", Custom Views, Administrative Events, and then, lo and behold, you're met with a slew of perfectly ordinary warnings and errors!). Their aim is to unsettle you, reacting with shock and disbelief, uttering things like, “Blimey, I'm astonished your PC’s still functioning!” Then they’ll attempt to persuade you to download some sort of remote desktop software (like TeamViewer or Supremo). For the love of all that is good, do not proceed with that! Instead, feign a lack of ability to download the software and insist that your supposed router issues are causing all this digital chaos. Honestly, it’s pure entertainment if you have the time to kill. They tend to back off once they see you as a complete novice with a computer!

I had a rather amusing encounter with a chap on the phone who introduced himself as Nigel from BT, but his accent was decidedly Indian, and he claimed to be calling from London! The line was dreadful, which I found rather ironic coming from a supposed BT representative. Naturally, I knew he wasn’t genuine, but it turned into a delightful game for me as I pretended to engage with him for a good twenty-five minutes. Eventually, I had to excuse myself for a quick trip to the loo, and I cheekily insisted that I’d ring him back. Of course, he was quite reluctant to let that happen, realising he was on the losing side! Their technique is rather predictable: they inform you that your router has been hacked and guide you to some random admin pages-running commands like "eventvwr" and then navigating to Custom Views, Administrative Events, and pulling up benign warnings and errors to scare you into thinking something serious is amiss. I can’t help but chuckle when they express disbelief that my computer is still operating, given their dire assessments. Ultimately, they aim to persuade you to download remote access software like Team Viewer or Supremo. Whatever you do, don’t fall for that trap! Instead, feign difficulty in installing the software, claiming that the (nonexistent) router issues must be causing your technological woes. All in all, have a laugh if you can; they tend to back off once they think you’re completely clueless about technology!

Had a bloke with an Indian accent ring me, said he was Nigel from BT and called from London or summat! The line was dodgy as hell, so I told him that was ironic coming from BT (obviously he wasn’t from BT, but I went with it for laughs). Ended up blagging him for about 25 minutes, then I had to nip to the loo and told him I'd ring back. He was well stiff about it, like he knew he’d been caught out. Proper funny moment.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from BT about dodgy stuff on my PC. The bloke said his name was Desmond and told me to call back on 01494728087. Sounded a bit fishy to me.
