I reckon Magrathea Telecom are into selling phone numbers right to scammers. Most of the numbers they hand out seem only good for outgoing calls. If you try to call back (best to block your number!), you might get told the number’s not in service. They've got loads of numbers for sale, like 0161 and 0203, plus plenty from random places far from town. On top of that, if you get a ring from one of these, your number is probably on a calling list they’ve passed around for cold calls.

Received a call claiming to be from a third-party insurance firm. After a brief chat, I grew suspicious and hung up. They tried to reach me again, but I've opted to block this number altogether.

Had a call from some crash chasers who didn’t even know my name or when the accident supposedly happened. When I mentioned I don't drive, they just hung up on me. Proper rude.

answered my phone and the person was going on about some lottery really fast. I asked what they were ringing about and they just got really rude with me. When I pushed back a bit, they just hung up straight away. Wouldn't bother with this one!

Yeah, this is definitely one of those scams - I mean, i’d reckon I’d be aware if I’d actually been arrested? Plus, you'd think you’d had to do something wrong first for that to happen!
