My landline got a call from 0141 230 9003 twice, claiming to be British Gas and telling me to press a number to make a payment. I hung up, then called British Gas directly who said none of their numbers match this one. Totally a scam. They called again just now, I didn’t pick up, but they left a message asking to return the call to the same number. Definitely dodgy.

I've been getting calls, emails, and letters from a so-called 'debt recovery' agency claiming that I owe a certain sum to Southern Electric, despite having settled my final bill. After reaching out to SSE directly, they assured me this was nothing more than a scam and that I have no debts with them whatsoever. Quite alarming, really!

I didn't pick up the phone but after seeing what others said it might have been that zinc firm. I've spoke with them before about some water charges bill they said I owed. Feeling a bit wary now about carrying on dealing with them after reading other people's experiences.

They said they were from a debt collection agency working for SSE, who I’ve had issues with before. I was told that I didn’t owe anything though. They also took the credit balance I had when SSE took over my old energy supplier. I’m really not sure if I should trust them or not. Zinc Debt Group, absolute con artists trying to convince you you owe money to a company you might have used ages ago. For me, it was Virgin Media. I closed my Virgin account years back and it was never overdue. What really bugs me is they tracked down my work email, which I’m fairly sure is against the law. So, off to the ombudsman I go to report these muppets! Your data is yours, and if you didn’t consent to them using it, then they’ve gotten hold of it unlawfully and deserve to be stopped!

Zinc Debt Group are a bunch of con artists attempting to convince you that you've got an outstanding debt with a firm you may have engaged with in the past-Virgin Media in my situation. The truth is, my account with them was settled ages ago, and there were never any issues. What's particularly concerning is that they managed to track down my work email, which feels like a serious breach of privacy. I'm definitely planning to escalate this to the Ombudsman because it's simply not on! Your personal information is yours alone, and if they’re using it without your consent, that’s definitely a dodgy move on their part!
