Got a call earlier from some bloke claiming to be with Virgin Media, said someone was trying to hack into my internet. I kept asking him to give me his phone number, but he dodged it the whole time and just kept wanting to know when he could ring me back. Every time he asked for a callback time, I asked again for his number. In the end, I just hung up - another bleedin' scammer. Really sick of them now.

A bloke from Nottinghamshire said he was calling from Virgin Media and told me I had 22 devices connected to my broadband. I don’t even have that many! When I told him that was impossible, he just hung up on me.

Received a call from 01406 436966 this morning at around ten past nine. The caller purported to be from BT Internet, alleging that our account was suspected of misuse. Got a call from 01406436966 around 1:45 pm, the line was awful and the caller had a thick foreign accent, speaking really broken English that was hard to follow, maybe Indian? I don’t know the number and never asked for any calls. It sounded like there were loads of people talking at once, like 200 or something. I just hung up right away. Feels like a scam, maybe some kind of boiler room thing. I’ve reported it. Please watch out if this number rings you! We’re on the TPS as well.

When I pressed for the specific address she mentioned something like 81 Newgate in London. But according to this website, the phone number isn’t even registered in London. Some guy with a foreign accent called, saying I was overcharged £119 for washing machine cover. He asked me to verify my address and postcode, which I did. Before I could find out how they planned to give me the refund, he just ended the call abruptly.

Really loud call centre in the background. Woman speaking with a thick accent, clearly just reading off a script. Mentioned some Sylvia Browne or something about home appliances. I ended up hitting the red button on my phone.

They never bother leaving a message so I’m safe from any dodgy scams. Getting an answerphone was the best choice I made - I still catch all real calls without any hassle.

I got a call about a "washing machine contract that had just ended" which is rubbish as I’ve never had one. They even had my details, including my landline. The guy was really pushy. I tried to stay calm and polite, but when I told him it sounded like a con, he got really nasty. He threatened to give out my number so I’d get loads of calls. When I said I’d hand the phone to my husband, he just shouted over me, and honestly, I felt quite intimidated.

(Cont) I’m thinking next time I might follow along a bit more just to see how deep it goes, but I’m pretty sure they’re just after loads of personal info (probably just grabbed your name and phone number from some data list). In the end, they’re just trying to get you to give them your bank details, all under the pretense of some ‘refund’ that supposedly needs to be paid out.

To sum it up, me and a few others got pretty lucky being able to call them out straight away. Loads of folks don’t get that chance, or just don’t notice the red flags, like only getting a phone call and no proper letter (this was with the washing machine warranty company we use). They tempt people with money to reel them in, and sadly, many get caught out...

On Sunday, the 15th of May, I received a rather dubious call from this number, asserting I was due a payment of £119.60 for a washing machine warranty. When I probed her about how they had come up with that figure and why I wouldn't simply receive a cheque, the lady grew quite curt. She insisted on obtaining my bank account information to facilitate the transfer, promising that I would receive an email and a letter containing further details afterwards. To top it off, she asked for my date of birth, which immediately raised alarm bells and led me to conclude it was all a scam. I promptly hung up, and rest assured, my bank details are safe.

Got a call saying I was due a refund of £119 for an overpayment on a Bosch washing machine warranty. Thing is, the machine was bought over a decade ago and never had a warranty. They asked for my elderly dad’s bank sort code, account number and email to ‘send the refund’. They even said they could put the money back into my own account if I gave them the details. Complete nonsense, no proper company would agree to transfer refunds into other accounts, that’s just a classic trick to scam money and launder cash. Definitely a phishing attempt.

If I got a letter, properly printed on company letterhead, the very first thing I'd do is double check by ringing the washing machine warranty firm - either using the number I already know or finding it myself online. Definitely NOT just trusting some random caller like the ones described above. Let's stop these #Scammers, spread the word and make sure neither you nor anyone close to you gets caught out, EVER‼️‼️‼️

This lady rang up saying I was due a refund from some insurance policy I'd supposedly got for an electrical gadget. She then passed me onto a bloke asking which bank account I wanted the refund sent to, and tried to get my bank info. They were so convincing at first. But the moment they spotted I was onto their scam, they just hung up on me.

After an exhausting night caring for our seriously ill daughter with disabilities, we hurried to pick up the phone when it rang at half past nine in the morning. To our dismay, a man on the other end was speaking in a language we couldn’t understand. It felt like nothing more than a nuisance telephone call from obvious scammers.
