Somebody rang up pretending to be from the energy company about an issue with our meter readings. I told them I’d get in touch with the supplier myself since I wasn’t convinced there was any problem. We’ve had calls like this before - definitely a scam.

Some bloke rang me saying he was from British Gas and there was an issue with our meter reading. Had a thick Indian accent. I decided to humour him because we actually don't have a meter here since it's a serviced office. I tried feeding him some rubbish details, but he clearly wasn’t the sharpest and just ended up hanging up. Proper daft lad.

Today I got a call asking for the accounts team, mentioning our energy provider. The bloke spoke so fast and with such a strong accent, I had to ask him to slow down a couple of times. I quickly looked up the number and after seeing the reviews, I told him no thanks and hung up. He rang back straight away and yelled, “Why did you hang up, ma’am?” I matched his attitude and told him I knew it was a scam and to buzz off. End of call. I’ve no patience for rubbish like that!

I've been inundated with calls supposedly from EON, which is rather concerning given that they had my address and details about my energy provider. However, the caller, with a pronounced Asian accent yet a distinctly British name, was unyielding, which set alarm bells ringing for me. It’s all too easy to be misled into thinking these calls are legitimate. I really think it’s high time that telecommunication firms implemented stricter measures to protect our information from misuse. Stay vigilant, folks!

Been getting loads of calls all day from someone claiming to be with Total Energy, saying there's a tech problem and they need to double check my gas and electric bills. I rang up Total Energy myself, and they told me they don't have any offices in Exeter and also, no tech issues going on at all. Pretty sure it's a scam.

Got a call earlier from someone who said they were with British Gas, then suddenly switched to Opus. They told me the meter reading from another tenant got mixed up with ours and that our usage looked strange. They kept pushing for info about our bill. No clue what they were really after, but they went on for ages, so I searched online while chatting and found your site. Cheers! Once I read out the scam warning related to that number, the bloke hung up sharpish.

So, I was dealing with an issue about my smart meter and this person seemed to know my supplier and even had the meter number right. But then they wanted to know when my contract ended. When I asked them what date they had, it was completely wrong. That’s when I hung up and got in touch with Octopus, who told me the call wasn’t from them at all and it was just a scam.

Got a call from someone saying they’re from SSE Metering, but when I asked for the meter number, they couldn’t get it right. Seemed like they were trying to gather info that you can find pretty easily anyway. Every one of the three people I spoke to had strong Indian accents too. Proper dodgy if you ask me.

Kept ringing our work line, claiming to be from British Gas. After a long and confusing chat, it was obvious the bloke hadn’t a clue what he was on about. Got a call from someone claiming to be with Midland Electricity, saying there was an issue with my meter reading and ID. When I asked her to state her company again, she told me to hold on. I said she should surely know her own employer. She didn’t answer so I ended the call. She rang back saying I’d hung up on her. Then she checked once more and this time said she was with British Gas... I’ve blocked the number now.

Someone called from DGP (Delta Gas and Power) claiming they had all my details, including my PAN number. They said there was a mix-up with my account and someone else’s, and wanted to check my bills. The whole thing felt really pushy and fishy. I’ve now put a password on my account, so when someone calls I just ask for it. If they can’t give it, I know they’re not legit. After I kept pushing for my password, the caller just hung up. I’m convinced this Wavecrest lot are a scam, best to steer clear.

Got a call from 01392 581925, some bloke saying he was Harry Brown from Scottish Power (sure, like I believe that). He’s been pretending to be from every energy company under the sun lately! This time he wanted to chat with Accounts Payable, which I haven't heard before. Told him to talk to my manager instead (won't be happening) and said he can ring me back another time... then I just blocked him.

Over the past couple of weeks, this number popped up a few times saying they're from Total Energies, which is who we get our energy from at work. They kept going on about how if I didn't reveal who our new supplier is, we'd end up with a crazy high bill because of some mistake on their end. That was even after I’d already sent in a meter reading last week. The caller was pretty pushy, but I didn't budge. Eventually, they just hung up, warning we'd face an inflated charge.

I checked with EON and they said it’s actually a scam. Don’t really get what they want to do with that info though.

Had a call like others here, someone saying they were from the British Gas Meter Reading team. They seemed to have all our BG meter and account info, which was odd. Felt off from the start, so I told them I wasn’t going to answer any more questions since it seemed pointless. Looks like some kind of scam to me. Fingers crossed I haven’t ended up with huge reverse charge phone bills!

I even mentioned I'd dealt with EON directly, but then they claimed EON were the ones pulling a scam! They threatened to switch off our gas supply too.

Someone rang me saying they were from my energy supplier. They claimed there was some issue with billing me because of a tech problem. While I was still talking to them, I looked up the number here only to realise it was a total scam. I asked them to email me proof of which company they actually worked for, but they wouldn’t agree. After that, they kept ringing me back multiple times.

Somebody rang claiming to be from British Gas. It was clear they were just reciting a script because when I asked a few questions to check if it was legit, they kept giving the same answer and started getting a bit flustered. They said there was a problem with the supply number on our bill and I needed to talk to someone in accounts. I checked with our finance department and we don’t even use British Gas as our provider. Total scam, no doubt about it.

The moment he opened his mouth, I knew straight away he wasn't affiliated with them, so I promptly hung up. Yet, he kept ringing back repeatedly-something no legitimate energy provider would ever do. Having dealt with numerous impersonators from energy companies in the past, I was able to spot this deceitful call as a scam without hesitation.

Someone rang saying they were from our energy company, saying we’d overpaid because supposedly our last meter reading was wrong. I checked online, saw loads of warnings about this kind of scam, so I told him to send me an email if there was any legit issue and I’d talk then. He just said “bye” and hung up right away. Such a pain, and a complete waste of my time!

Just like others, a bloke rang saying he was from Ecotricity, needing my meter readings. I told him to drop me an email, but he rang back saying I’d given him the wrong address. Told him if he really worked for Ecotricity he’d know the right one. This is the fourth time he’s called today! He doesn’t seem to take no for an answer. I stopped answering after I told him he sounded like a scammer, but he kept on going!!!

Claimed they were from EON, gave part of our address and said our meter reading was wrong, wanted me to confirm the meter number. Told them sorry but I didn’t know who they were so I wasn’t giving out any info, thanked them and hung up. They called back straight away, quite pushy asking why I hung up. I repeated that I didn’t know who they were and ended the call again. Then they rang right back once more, so I called EON and found out it was a scam.

Someone with a really strong accent claimed to be from Scottish Power, asking for my meter reading. He said he could confirm the serial number on my meter only if I gave him my account number from my bill first. I decided to note down his info and told him I'd get in touch with Scottish Power directly. After that, he snapped, saying things like "you've wasted my time completely" and "I don't want to talk to you anymore." Totally ridiculous behaviour! The number was 01392 581925.
