We've recently noticed our account has been hit with charges for the past four months, totalling around £20 a month. Turns out, this number is linked to the Global Payments card reader, which is reaching out directly to their headquarters in Dunfermline, Fife, to fetch necessary data related to the service. This usually takes place between half two and four in the morning. The whole situation arose because they failed to inform us that we needed to update the password for the machine.

I’m employed at a call centre for a firm that supplies these devices, and I recently received a call from a merchant. She noticed on her phone bill that this number had been dialled six times on the 18th of August during the hours of 4am to 9:35am. Quite peculiar, really!

Upon sifting through my billing statements from the past year, I noticed this number cropping up three or four times, always around 5 or 6 in the morning when the place was definitely shut. Curiously, I investigated my other business, located some 250 miles away in Kent, only to find the very same number appearing at those unearthly hours, with four or five instances in a month. I find myself utterly baffled as to why I’m being charged for these calls when no one was around to receive them!
