I received a phone call from someone purporting to represent Nationwide regarding my imminent renewal for Home and Contents Insurance. The caller presented themselves in a very polished manner, and I ended up paying the full annual fee rather than establishing a new Direct Debit arrangement. However, it’s been quite the headache since neither Nationwide nor their underwriters, Royal Sun Alliance, have acknowledged the payment of £149.42 that I made. I've since initiated a dispute with RSA. Honestly, it feels like I've fallen prey to a highly orchestrated and cunning scam! Do keep your wits about you!

Got a call from a woman with an Indian accent offering me some kind of cheap home appliance insurance. The same number, 01837500089, had tried ringing me about 52 minutes before this call. She claimed they partnered with gas firms to offer this cover. When I asked her which gas company I was signed up with, to back up her claim about no recent claims in the past year, she just cut me off.

I got a call from a bloke saying my fridge warranty had run out and he wanted to offer me an extension for another 24 months. I instantly suspected it was dodgy because my fridge doesn’t even have a warranty! So, I decided to mess about with him a bit to see what would happen. When he began asking for personal info and told me it would cost £6.99 each month, I said I was onto him and waiting for him to ask for my bank details. He quickly checked if I wasn’t interested anymore, I said no, and he just hung up straight away with a quick “ok, bye.” Total scam.

Got a call from someone claiming to be with 360 Personal Alarms. They went straight into chatting about different alarm systems and mentioned I might qualify for a free one. I told them I didn't think I needed anything like that at this stage in my life. After that, she just went "Oh" and cut me off suddenly. Felt dodgy to me - a legit business would have been a lot nicer and ended the call politely, not just hang up like that.
