Received a call today, and it was unmistakably a machine, albeit rather adept at mimicking a human tone. “I'm still getting the hang of this role,” it replied, “I’m just following a script, so forgive me if I come across as a tad robotic.” “I have a list of numbers I must ring each morning given to me by my supervisor.” When I inquired about the date, it quipped, “Oh, ha ha!” Turns out they’re based in Kent. If you get a dodgy call, text 7726 to report it - this helps phone companies flag suspicious numbers. Sadly, you can't report scams straight through the police's 'Action Fraud' site any more, as they’ve shut down that option (probably to save money). If you’re annoyed, maybe take it up with your MP. You can still send screenshots of scam messages to the cyber crime unit at '[email protected]' alongside forwarding to 7726.

I received a peculiar call from a chap who had quite an unusual accent, asserting he was from BT Open Reach.
