Someone called me saying they could upgrade my EE mobile plan from 4G to 5G for an extra £5 a month and wanted to post me some forms to sign. At first, I guessed it might be a scam, but they said sending paperwork would show it was legit. The call sounded quite convincing, but since I’m not even with EE, I knew something was off. I reckon their trick would’ve been asking for my address next, to move the scam along, but if it was really my network, they’d already have that info anyway!

I got a missed call today on my work mobile, but no voicemail was left. When I called back, an automatic voice said it was from E-Core Host. According to my search, E-Core Host Ltd, which was a firm based in London, was officially shut down in September 2021. Weirdly, the number I called back had a Scottish area code. The recorded message offered two choices: press 1 to talk with an advisor or press 9 to register your number on their do not call list.
